I'm pretty sure it's a myth that women are paid less for the same job.
@ archiethesailor, I doubt it. There is even the concept of the "glass ceiling" in sociology class that says that certain people, depending on their race and/sex, can only climb so high up the corporate ladder before they are stuck. Hence the glass ceiling.
@ archiethesailor, it's been proven a myth. If you could pay women 77% of men, then all employers would only employ women because they can be paid less. Also, there are a lot of factors that go into it and the 77% outcome is looking at the very end of an issue instead of more specific cases.
@ archiethesailor, it isn't a myth. It's true. Look it up.
@Hotchkiz, Just to state one example of this, my mother is a podiatrist. She only works 3 days out of the week rather than 5, so of course she doesn't get paid as much as her male counterparts who work 5 days a week.
@ archiethesailor, it's a statistic that compares the salaries of all men and women in the workforce, and since women on average have lower paying jobs, ie. nurses while men are often doctors, they get paid less on average. In the same job with the same qualifications, women get paid about 98% of what men receive.
@turtledragon, thats not even the same thing at all.
@I am a horse, no its not, its an average based on all jobs, sure theres less women in the white collar, but they get paid the same, and in blue collar you get paid based on the work you do, so in a construction job where a man carries 100s of bricks regularly will get paid more than a woman that can only carry 50lbs then bitches the whole day
@Hotchkiz, it wasn't always a myth.
@funny pic veteran, true. But not acknowledging progress is lame. And dragging old problems into the present discussion is slowing future progress.
@Hotchkiz, ehh anyone one who isn't a Protestant, white, male is a minority
@waffen ss, that's uhh, that's not how it works.
@funny pic veteran, also true. But minorities can have a significant voice and power with the internet. Also, classifying by religion, race, and gender is lame.
@Hotchkiz, I'm not arguing against that I'm just stating facts, it's not my beliefs or opinions, it's societies
@funny pic veteran, good call.
@ archiethesailor, it's true, but only because the statistic doesn't account for the fact that women take more time off.
@WilfredMott, why did people downvote you? I mean that is one of the reasons. They take maternity leave and take time off if a kid is sick, have an appointment, etc. so yeah. They will make less. But they want to present these general statistics that make it look bad. There are laws to prevent businesses to pay women less for the same work as men. And for those who don't know, they don't get payed for maternity leave. They are just given so many weeks off without loosing their current pay wage, ie they will be given the same job or a different one with the same pay she had before she left. So yeah. Less yearly pay on average.
Funny sexism was unintentional.
I want Hillary to win just so Bill Clinton will be the first First Man.
@I Are Lebo, First Gentleman, actually. Which would be all the more ironic because it's Bill Clinton.
@The Ancient One, a real gentleman, banging his intern with a cigar in the Oval Office, very classy.
No...I don't find mullets sexy at all... *adds to favorites*
Good guy crossed with sexist hillbilly meme?
@Homeless Gentleman, I think this meme presents an ignorant man who genuinely cares for the world and wants the best for everyone, but is so misinformed and confused that he accidentally ends up offending people...Misinformed Mullet? Humble Hobo?
But even then, we would only save about $50,000...
