@FullMetalAlcoholist, AAAACTUAALLLY there's a fan theory out there that the emperor siphoned her life force to keep anakin alive. It's a really good theory, because it explains how the droids didn't know what was happening to her, because droids don't have an understanding of the force, they can't feel it like people can. It also explains how emperor palpatine just somehow knew she was dead at the end of vaders surgery

@Dragondoot, I had a child and complications from his birth have caused me to almost die 3 times. My health is so poor I lost a career in medicine and now can't do basic things like bend over to pick up multiple items. Yeah. Having babies can be EXTREMELY dangerous and takes a huge toll on a woman's body- no matter the technology involved!

@KMN, it's very true that Anakin was strong, but he was blinded by his emotions and couldn't think properly. That's why even when Obi-Wan warned him ("It's over Anakin. I have the higher ground") he still went for it, and it ended up costing him his limbs. And when he fought Luke in Return of the Jedi he began to feel conflicted as Luke persuaded him to leave the dark side, again distracting him from focusing properly. Luke and Leia didn't even know they were siblings until he figured it out and told her. Sure, they may have had a connection, but until he brought it up they were basically just close comrades. Even Vader wasn't aware of it until he fought Luke on the new Death Star and read Luke's mind

@Sexy Homunculus, he told Luke the movie before they fought on the new death star. He was aware as Luke was being trained, as Luke himself was becoming aware when he saw himself/Vader in the cut off head. Luke realized as soon as he was aware of a sister. Anakin's hate was supposed to make him strong but he never owned Obi-wan in that fight like he should have. He was losing before he took the risk - and the high ground was defeated by Obi-wan over Maul. He never even achieved the power of Dooku. 20 years as ol' chokey and he still didn't have force lightning.

@KMN, he told Luke after he found out from his discussion with the Emperor via hologram on the Super Star Destroyer (in the 2004 DVD edition release he asks the Emperor "how is that possible?" when the Emperor tells him Luke is a Skywalker"). The thing about Luke seeing himself in the Vader vision wasn't because they were family; it was a reflection of Luke's shortcomings. Yoda told Luke "Your weapons, you will not need them", but Luke was still afraid, and since Vader was basically a representation of the challenges Luke had to defeat and overcome his fear caused him to experience that vision, as well as show him what would happen if he didn't kill his fear. Luke had no idea Vader was his father until Vader told him, and even then he didn't fully believe it until Yoda confirmed it in Return of the Jedi. Concerning Obi Wan and Darth Maul it looked like Darth Maul was so overcome with shock he couldn't respond in time, at least that's the impression I got looking at his facial reaction

@Sexy Homunculus, the face in the mask was his sense of what it would mean to kill Vader, he did not KNOW he was his father at that moment - but his Jedi senses told him that killing Vader was personal to him and laid the seeds for not wanting to kill him. Shock is a weapon of any good warrier, the high ground is just an advantage not a certainty, if he was meeting his potential he had many ways to use the force to distract Obi-wan. He failed in a similar situation to where Obi-wan succeeded.
It's cause she didn't want to live anymore, jeez. Don't you listen?
