@myusernameistaken, the golden ratio is a ratio/proportion often found in nature. It occurs when the ratio of a smaller object (a) compared to a larger object (b) is also equal to the ratio of b:(a+b). The actual value of the ratio is ~1.618. It is frequently found throughout nature (like the examples given in the picture), also in spiral seashells, flowers, geodes. It is theorized it has something to do with the nature of molecular bonding patterns. The joke is that they're applying a beautiful principle of nature to someone giving a middle finger.
