I didn't know they had a chart for Detroit
@Taquito Speedo, I'll be the first to say it... SHOTS FIRED!
@EducatedSeaLion, *is ded*
@Taquito Speedo, why? You don't live in Detroit, do you?
@EducatedSeaLion, no I'm near Compton
@Taquito Speedo, Strait outa' it?
@EducatedSeaLion, nah, I ain't hood. I'm from da burbs
@EducatedSeaLion, I'll be the first to say it... Why the fúck in this on funny pics?
@Taquito Speedo, Idk man, there's lots of missing dogs and stolen mail. Maybe the dog was shot dead in a gang rivalry, maybe the mail was full of money but some loco motha klapped it. Seems hood as fük to me pardner. (I try to sound hood but I'm clearly a white male trying to sound hood.)
@EducatedSeaLion, it's aight ma nig.....I'm not allowed to finish that, I'm Hispanic
@Taquito Speedo, Why is it offensive to say Nigeria?
@Taquito Speedo, hey i grew up in michigan and ill have you know. I only saw 700 shootings on the news and only 650 were from detroit.
@EducatedSeaLion, * turns bullets into a magic salve that can heal all wounds* *red vs blue, anyone?*
@potato wizard, "I think it would be ironic if everybody was made of iron."
@Taquito Speedo, I live in Detroit lol
Is this deaths in one year? Ten years? "Deaths in America" is a bit vague. As far as I know this is a chart of all deaths ever.
Saw a graph on the internet, must be accurate
Is obesity too big for the chart.
@Jeancul, obesity is the rest of the chart.
Doesn't change the fact that they occur.
Where the pie chart for how many people it affects? I don't know anybody who died at Sandy Hook or At the movie theater, etc, but I know my life was altered each of those days. "Is that someone with a gun coming in the theater? What do I do if he/she pulls it out and starts shooting?" "Are my kids going to be ok at school today? Should I quit my job and home school?" These and others are not things I should have to worry about.
@iOS8, what if someone drove a bus through the building?
@Leprechaun Giant, great point. There should be licenses and restrictions and tests on driving as well. And if you are proven incapable of driving, you shouldn't. When can we start that too?
@iOS8, did you see the picture? It is stating that these events are very rare. We should be more worried about dying other ways than worrying about being murdered. Also, your kids are more likely to die of starvation or lack of adequate shelter if you quit your job than they are of being murdered.
@Tytinn, which are all things I can control myself. I can't control some donkey getting a gun a shooting up a place where my and my family are.
@iOS8, well by all means let's ban guns! It sure as heck made sure no one did drugs when we banned those right?!
@EnragedApe, I didn't say ban them. I'm just saying a lot tighter control on who should be allowed to get one. And better knowledge of who had them. And when one goes missing. Maybe even fingerprint locks on guns so that only the owner can use it. You know. Smart thinking about it as opposed to wild Wild West thinking about it.
@iOS8, We need more people like you around. Not only is this a well thought out, moderate stance that has a chance of satisfying both sides of a divisive issue, you managed to express it eloquently to someone being argumentative and frankly, disrespectful. Kudos.
@iOS8, also the fact that we have these shooting in such higher rates than any other developed country bothers me, if it happens in the US, it's an event, if it happens in say Australia, the whole world gets wind of it because of how unusual it is.
@iOS8, well I'd say gun free zones are a bigger problem, all these shootings happen in them, like schools, or the movie theater that one dude shot up, it wasn't the closest to him, or the biggest, but it was the only gun free one near him...or you know start getting to the root of the problem, trying to get help for these types of troubled people instead of banning something for an easy "fix" that won't actually fix anything
@Light Skinned Brotha, well, there's no proof that the theater was picked because it was a "gun free" zone. Only conjecture. Who's to know if they are the reasons, except for the people who do the shooting. And since most of them die, it's hard to ascertain what the real reason for their selection is. Trying to get help is great. But we should also be limiting their ability to acquire guns too. And again. I didn't say ban. The gun industry is a multi multi billion dollar industry that give hundreds of thousands of not millions of people jobs. There is no way you can ban guns. But you can be smarter about who gets them. And what kind they can get.
@iOS8, sure, no "proof" he chose for that reason but the fact that maybe not 100%, but pretty much all gun violence happens in places that have super strict gun laws should say something, like chicago, gun free zones, etc. And we have laws in place that shouldn't allow criminals to obtain guns illegally but it happens, anything we do will just make it harder for law abiders to own them, I deal with the bs laws all the time as someone who purchases guns quite often and can say they don't do any good and it just makes more work to get them legally
@iOS8, it's called "being able to defend yourself"
@Light Skinned Brotha, THANK YOU! 🍪 have a cookie, no wait all the cookies!🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪
@MyLonewolf25, I love cracker flavored cookies haha
@MyLonewolf25, nobody is saying you shouldn't be able to defend yourself.
@Light Skinned Brotha, considering all of the top 10 violent crime involving hand gun states are states the do not require a permit to purchase a gun, I don't think your argument against the laws holds water.
@iOS8, I want to take a second to apologize for being argumentative. I woke up in a foul mood. To be honest I am completely for stricter regulations for firearm sales and such. Your ideas are pretty good. I still think things like this will happen unfortunately, but it might help minimize.
@EnragedApe, no worries. I have the same kind of mornings every once in a while as well. :)
@iOS8, no proof except that he passed by multiple theaters that did allow patrons to be armed to shoot up the theater that didn't.
@Sleeper, correct. He skipped over a theater that caters to the Spanish crowd (shows movies with Spanish subtitles) and a dinner theater movie house that wasn't showing batman. When he went to the movies, being a white male, he went to the theater he shot up. And that's why I think he picked the one he picked. So. My speculation is just as good as any other. There's no way to know if he did pick the theater because of the gun free zone or not. Unless he says so either on the stand or in a future interview, we'll never know for sure. If he says he did pick it because of that, then I'll eat my words and come back an apologize.
@iOS8, fingerprint guns are not a viable option as of right now. And any law abiding gun owner should be able to get any type of gun they want (under current laws and statures) also just because mass shootings dont happen as often in other countries doesnt mean other murders happen at a lower rate. Look at England. They have such a massive amount of knife murders they're considering banning those as well.
@iOS8, ok, and by who's standards do we use for your "tighter control". Fingerprint locks are great if I'm being attacked, but what if I'm not home and my wife or kids can get to my gun?
@iOS8, you say restrict what "types of guns" people should be able to get. What would you restrict if you had the authority?
@iOS8, what state does not require a permit to buy a gun? You're just making sh:t up now. The licensing requirement is a federal law.
@Whatssofunny, I am by no means a law maker and am just spit balling here from 30 years of listening to gun control from both sides since Reagan was shot. As for what states don't require a permit to buy a gun, a simple google search gave me a wiki page that listed all the states and their gun laws. And from a spot check of 12 states, only 2 or 3 required a permit to purchase a gun.
0.6% * 0.2% * 320,000,000 = 3840 deaths from mass murder. Doesn't seem so small now does it?
@ernst, less than 1 every 2 hours, which is sure better than many causes that come in ever couple minutes or less.
@Sleeper, but this is a cause of death that people can control
@ernst, We can control it if we funded mental hospitals.
@ernst, Pretty damn small
@CriTiKa1, while most people who commit mass murder are mentally unstable, many are undiagnosed and seem sane enough before the event to not commit mass murder so they wouldn't be in one either way
@CriTiKa1, and sure it's a small number in comparison to the US population, but lives aren't just a number
@ernst, People with mental health issues are a huge problem. So many problems would be solved if they were locked up in a mental hospital getting the help they need. There are people that would go undiagnosed, but the amount of mass shootings would be reduced even more this way, and people who need help would be getting it. Also, lives are just numbers when we're talking about making laws. You can't let emotions dictate how we make laws and policies, that's what happened after 9/11 and look at what that got us. An inefficient TSA, the NSA, war on terror, Patriot Act, all a result of people being emotional over 9/11. We can't let that happen again.
Did you know 100000 people need to die before something is deemed important?
Try telling the families of the victims that .2% doesn't make a difference.
@Commander Peanuts, it's actually .2% of .6% which is .000012% educate yourself
@EnragedApe, actually it's 0.0012%. Make sure you have it right before you correct someone and tell them to educate themselves
@ernst, you're right. I mistyped. Guess I should go slit my wrists now
@ernst, actually it's 0.2% of 0.6% which is in fact 0.000012%
0.2% = 0.002
0.6% = 0.006
0.002 * 0.006 = 0.000012
0.000012 = 0.0012%
@ernst, oh whoops. I stand corrected
@TheCandyVanMan, that will happen when you try to argue math with an engineer
@ernst, funny thing is I'm an aerospace engineer haha
Mass as in big or in church
Deaths In massive shooting 0.2%-orphan children with 1 arm
This just shows our tendency as human beings to minimize things and compare to other things to make them seem less important.
Also, even if it is only 0.2 percent, it shouldn't happen at all! It's just the result of the NRA being so focused on money that they don't care that people are dying.
Unbiased America is one of the best Facebook pages ever
So if I'm murdered in a mass shooting I'm pretty lucky then
I just noticed.. What's with all the labels on the bottom of these pics?? Were they on pics before this update? Am I going crazy??
