I actually watched an interesting video last night made by a girl on why she isn't a feminist. She made many good points for example how feminism is about making women equal to men but not the other way around. Like how there are no safe houses for men and even though men make up nearly half of all domestic violence victims they rarely taken seriously. Other such issues like how men make up over 80% of suicides and if a man is raped it will rarely ever get a trial. The fact that women get about half the sentence than a man will for the same crime. Stuff like that it was really interesting and I agree with her 100%
@rabid aviator, this. This is true
@rabid aviator, I saw that video too. I think more people need to watch it, not so they will necessarily stop supporting feminism, but so that people can see the double standards it creates and hopefully change so that, if it's truly about equality, men's rights will be fought for just as frequently as women's.
@venerable viking, what is the video called
@rabid aviator, link?
@Alliance, I'm pretty sure it's "girl explains why she's not a feminist" that should help you find it.
@Jdrawer, I'm not sure sorry
@rabid aviator, they had it as an ad on youtube for a while, but good stuff.
@rabid aviator, those are the kinds of issues I had with feminism too before talking to people who understood it better than I. What I have learned is that essentially feminism is against the "patriarchy" which doesn't mean against men but against the system of male dominance and societal roles based on gender. Telling men not to be weak and telling women to be sweet and pretty are both part of it. So not taking men seriously when they've been raped or not providing them help with domestic violence are related to the stereotypes that men are too strong and dominant for all that while women do not do actual damage to men. You'll hear everywhere feminism only being about the wellbeing of women, but in theory it's for the betterment of everyone and when I say I'm a feminist it's because I want everyone to be treated just as strong and weak and courageous and vulnerable as human beings can be. Sorry for the long post. Not trying to start a fight, just bringing up another viewpoint.
@HolyCatchphrase, I agree with you on that it's supposed to be a movement for equality with all genders but in the video she points out that feminist tend to only focus on women's issues but claims that they are for everyone. I just identify myself as a humanist or egalitarian
@HolyCatchphrase, you'd like to think that that's what being a feminist is about... But think about it, it's literally called feminism (exactly what I think this picture is getting at)
@HolyCatchphrase, I disagree. Feminism was started as political term for those who wanted gender equality, not taking down a matriarchy or patriarchy or advancing a gender. It was about making both equal for each other and feminism could be used for men too, but because of the name people thought it was only for female rights and that became kind of true. I don't agree with feminism because there are too many radicals for me to want to be associated with it. I am not against female rights though, as I am a Jew. Now it isn't a thing saying that all Jews are with women or against, there are some bad ones, and it also doesn't mean being a Jew means you are automatically pro or anti something. But at the same time it does. Now people think that the orthodox don't allow women to wear talit or tephillin because they are women. True, but in a positive way. Jewish men wear talit and tephillin in order to connect closer to God. But the reason women can't, or shouldn't I should say, wear them is
@Lt Dubble Bubble, because women, according Judaism, have already the greatest connection to God in strength. They are very close to God just being women, which is why they do candle-lighting prayers. There is more I can go over this with (there should be a Jewish discussion forum FP users can use 😁😜) but the point is that people think some people don't allow others to do something because of prejudice. Sometimes there is a reason, and you must look deep for it. My philosophy is don't start a fight unless you have at least 51% more knowledge of it than the opposed. Not saying all feminists are ignorant or all prejudice is for a good reason, but some people lash out before knowing the facts. So don't be feminist, be JEWISH 🔯🎇🔯🎆🎇🎉🎇🎆🔯🎇🔯 (just kidding by the way, be feminist or Jewish or neither, your choice 😁)
@rabid aviator, fellow humanist checking in.
It's called egalitarianism, for anyone wondering
@ archiethesailor, thank god i'm not the only person with a basic knowledge of french history.
@ archiethesailor, LIBERTÉ, ÉGALITÉ, UNITY! (Hope someone gets this)
@ archiethesailor, never headd it called that
@fetus meatus, It's really weird how someone will look at you funny if you say you're not a feminist because you're an egalitarian.
Can someone explain to me the funny in this pic?
@addibruh, well with you looking like that you are all the funny we can take! *snaps fingers*
@Barry Dylan, but funny is not an insult in this community *snaps fingers*
@addibruh, uh... it's funny because there's a little graphic there?
@addibruh, the sarcasm of feminists wanting equality
@addibruh, it's funny because women don't deserve rights (I'm joking everyone who's gonna take me seriously)
@Barry Dylan, BAAAAAAAARRRRYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!
@addibruh, if you turn the brightness low enough you can see your reflection
The definition of fair is not everyone gets the same boost up, it is everyone gets the boost they require to put everyone at the same level. Just gonna put that there
@roughshod, Hence egalitarianism.
It can't be equal if girls do jobs and men do jobs and both are tired when they get home who will make the samiches!
Waiter! There's some political commentary in my Funny Pics!
As long as you expect equal opportunity and not equal representation just because
As a man I feel slightly more equal.
@Xtctrigga, Everyone is equal, but some are more equal than others.
Femenists always spout about a pay gap, that say a man working at McDonald's is played more than a woman. the static that said it's 77 cents per dollar took every man and every woman across the country and averaged them. They didn't take into account that some of the most high paying jobs are ones nobody wants to do, i.e garbage worker, construction worker, wind turbine servicer, telephone tower repair. Guess what? Guys took those jobs and it's paying them to do work nobody else wanted too.
More or less for this, except that women do unfortunately have a bit of physiology stacked against them. When the (I believe it was) the marines accepted women for training, even though they were mentally prepared, their body's frame with the skeleton is simply not strong enough sustain the heavy packs and other things demanded by the army, they'd eventually get stress fractures and be forced to drop out. A bit off topic I suppose for what I see in this pic, but I heard that recently so yeah
Or you can just do whatever the hell you want. The way to battle sexism isn't to shout at the other side. We live in a world where anyone can do anything, so just do it.
"To escape any kind of obligation to support a marginalized group, just state, ' I'm an egalitarian'. Stop. That's it."
Every argument that can be spawned from this picture, i say to you; BACKUP YOUR RESEARCH AND MOVE ON WITH YOURSELF!
Thanks pic, now moving on.
It should be called feminism, feminism should be recognized as a synonym for equality. Please get over the name, let's all just work together to make a world with equal rights for everyone. Also, for people saying that people already have equal rights, North America is not the only continent that matters. There are many other places in the world that desperately need more rights for lgbtq, the disabled, and yes women.
If I could upvote more than once, I would
It shouldn't considering feminism puts women first in definition and practice.
