I mean, im sure overdiagnosis is a problem, especially after John Oliver showed how doctors get paid by pharm companies to prescribe that companies medicine. But couldnt there also be an improvement in medicine that makes it easier to diagnose these problems?
@Captain Magma, biotech hopefully will be out saving grace, they're the only ones who've actually been making big improvements in medicine
@Captain Magma, it's tough to say since mental illness was never really accepted or understood until roughly 50 years ago. Now that we have a better understanding of what the diseases are we can do a better job of diagnosis. Some may think that we're over diagnosing people but these problems have been around since we developed as a species. The difference is that we're recognizing those issues now
@Captain Magma, another thing is that, at least for me, I'm not sure every situation needs medication. If this is something that has existed since our development as a species, there may be some benefit to some of these "mental disorders" (with obvious exceptions).
@Nazare, thats true. Medical diagnosis, especially for psychological illness, doesnt normally follow measured bodily functions. They are more created upon the societal definitions of a normal function mind and personality, ya know?
@Captain Magma, to be fair, over-diagnosis is a huge problem, but as someone with a BSN, Bachelor's of Science in Psychology, and a Bachelor's of Science in Automotive, Diesel, and Industrial Engineering, the biggest problem our species has is self-diagnosis. I have worked in all three fields for more than a decade and the most annoying and damning thing everyone does is show up with absolutely no idea what is wrong and the minute you tell them the actual problem, they all of a sudden become doctorates of everything. If they knew, why did they show up with that stupid fvckin look on their face?
@Captain Magma, yeah some of these medicines kinda make things worse but taken aderal (however you spell it) and it really helps me focus in college
@Captain Magma, all i know if my own experience with adhd
@The Vanguard, I went from a "B" "C" student to the top of my class when i started taking medication for my ADHD.
To be fair we didnt really know what signs of these diseases looked like. And of course people are misdiagnosed but that doesnt mean some kid cant have bipolar disorder or depression.
@gingerstuff, well this is the sad part. Most peopel don't know (especially where I live) schools and like programs get paid a certain amount of money based on the amount of children diagnosed with certain things especially adhd and add. It's sad but the love of money is the root of all evil. Im not going to say that there arent some children and even adults that actually do have it. I have a friend that is truly adhd but there is A LOT of misprescribed children
@gingerstuff, or in my case, both
To be fair, it's a lot easier to diagnose things nowadays. I mean I have anxiety but back then, people would just be thinking I was making it up
@The Tower Of Pimps, still do
I live with ADHD and I can tell you. It's 20x more complex and difficult to deal with than anyone thinks.
@ADHDButterfly, I'm right there with ya
@benderama, exactly. Just need to know when to take the piss out of it and when to sit alone in a room with a punch bag.
As a person who has had depression from a young age in a way I feel offended but at the same time this picture speaks the truth, people believe they actually have diseases they could never fathom.
@Carl Jenkins , true
Why is that all the other pictures, no one comments, but this one has everyone on it?
@Thats Not Milk, 🤐 don't question it, just let it happen.
@Thats Not Milk, Because this photo was commented on by some talking cum?
While in a lot of cases that's what those are, they didn't know as much and cast off things like actual depression as "moody" which doesn't help solve the actual problem
I have to agree with the picture somewhat. Im a bit of a loner but i always liked that. I wouldn't want to change that.
@Stabby, shhh you have depression and 26 other "disorders," please take overpriced medications your whole life.
Man, I'm all three on the right.
Wait a minute...
Really stuck pixel? You're really letting in sh!t that will provoke half the community because this is total bullsh!t? Come on, I had a little respect before this, but disrespecting bipolar disorder and ADHD? They're psychological diagnosed disorders
@Knight SoIaire, It's criticizing misdiagnosing and over diagnosing, not the actual illnesses.
@Knight SoIaire, but not everyone who daydreams and gets a temper need medicine to change who they are.
@CriTiKa1, I know this, but it's as if it's some stupid guy being like "back in my day" and being a general asshat to the people with these disorders (I have ADHD so it seriously feels like it's being downplayed of what it really is)
@Knight SoIaire, as someone who has seen bipolar on a personal level, it is much more than just hormones. People seem to think bipolar is an extreme form of pms, and that couldn't be less true. People with bipolar go days through depression, and then switch to manic episodes, which can last just as long. It's terrible, almost as though they don't have true control over their own thoughts. Fortunately, there are medicines that balance the chemicals in the brain, but they don't come without side effects
@Knight SoIaire, I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was a kid, and so was my brother. My brother took a ton of medication for it that just made him have even more problems. Luckily by the time I was diagnosed with it my parents realized the diagnosis was bs and I didn't take any of the medication. We were both misdiagnosed with it. Misdiagnosis really is a problem that shouldn't be downplayed either.
@Lady Ninja, seriously though, it annoys me when people downplay these serious disorders, it feels like no one truly understands it except the people who diagnose them and the people that have them
@Lady Ninja, a bipolar guy went on a rampage once in Grand Rapids MI, he killed 7 people, it's a hard disease to deal with.
@Knight SoIaire, so you are gonna be the guy who hates on this picture even though its a joke. You know when people get offended too easily and can't laugh at themselves only others. Yeah you're being that guy. We make fun of everything on here so take your pitty party somewhere else.
@CriTiKa1, also I'm more referring to the fact that kids are downplaying it by saying they have these disorders even though they really are just an excuse hunting little bitch
@Stabby, sorry but I've been around here longer than you. Period. Take your sh!t and pack it up if you're going to come into this community relatively new if you're going to open up being hateful, this is really my first picture I've found even slightly offensive and it's because I slightly misunderstood the picture, and I've been here since like 2011
@Knight SoIaire, buddy ive been a long time user. 2011? Wow congrats ! Ive had this app on an ipod since it came out and thats besides the point. You are being a whiny little bjtch and noone likes that. Grow up and stop thinking you are so important.
@Knight SoIaire, dude, you've been a confirmed troll for a while now. Stop acting offended.
@Stabby, this app came out in June 2010
@Knight SoIaire, congrats i dont give two fvcks. Notice noone is agreeing with you. I am here out disregarding your pathetic existence .
@Carl Jenkins , I heard about that, it happened when he was in the manic episode
@Stabby, I don't think I'm important, I really don't care what people think, but I'm putting my opinion out there and wasn't really expecting people to be so overly-critical of my misinterpretation of a picture that can be taken in more than one way
@Pun AH64Apache, confirmed troll? Never done this before
@Knight SoIaire, just shut up before you loose all the communities respect.
@Knight SoIaire, perhaps that is enough internet for one day. Gosh people stop being so butthurt about everything. This just reminds me of the meme where the guy needs a therapist because words do hurt.
@Knight SoIaire, you want to know what makes me feel "downplayed"? When I have a personality and free will, and sometimes I don't do too well in school, so then my parents and guidance counselors say it's because there is something wrong with me. People try to force me to take drugs that drastically alter my personality just so I fit in with what guidance counsellors consider normal. I am normal, my friends think I'm great and I think they're great. If you are having trouble and you need help, get it, I'm happy for you, buddy. The only thing that causes depression for me is when people treat me like a broken human being, just because I'm different than them. I'm me.
@Knight SoIaire, who would down vote you?
@SuperSexySloth, 1980: being a little baby. 2014: "PTSD" (according to Tumblr)
@D0N RAM0N, ptsd existed in the 80s
@HolyCatchphrase, it was not however, caused by words
@Tiny Tina, I think words trigger ptsd, not cause it. But just like a lot of these things I think people claim to have it without being diagnosed with it.
@HolyCatchphrase, everything else did really. I'm just saying it because of that one blogger who diagnosed herself with PTSD because she was bullied on the internet
@D0N RAM0N, When the need to be special and a victim is so big that you diagnose yourself with a debilitating illness because "words hurt."
@SuperSexySloth, YOU TOOK MY JOB
@tumblretard, THEY TOOK UR JEEEERRRRBBBBSSSS
I have ADHD, my grandfather once said to me "You know what we used to call kids with 'ADHD'? Delinquents!"
I know this is just criticizing overdiagnosis, but I'm beginning to wonder if the person who made this has any idea what any of these disorders really are. Anyone who thinks that a teen's raging hormones can be confused with bipolar disorder is severely mistaken. This is just like those people who think that being a perfectionist means having OCD, or that being offended causes PTSD.
Well shjt. According to the chart I'm all of them.
Things can be over diagnosed, but we also now know more and are still learning more about all different diagnoses and treatments
This is ignorant bull sh*t, adhd, bipolar disorder, and depression and serious diseases, I'm f*cking tired of having to prove to people I'm sick! People with other sicknesses don't have to constantly defend their diseases validity, it gets really old, it's bad enough going through these things
