In all seriousness please DO NOT try this. Electricity is no joke and will kill you.
@Jfosh, it huwts too.
@Stabby, it watt?
@Sheoldred, ohm my god can you read?
@Jfosh, Training as an electrician; this is the fear I must overcome.
@Kitchen Knight, just respect it and practice the 1 hand rule. You will get shocked at least once, we all do. Oh, and never NEVER trust someone else to turn something off for you without checking to see if it's live.
@Jfosh, Aye sir. But in all honesty I'm excited about being an electrician.
@Kitchen Knight, it's great, but it has its days. Are you going to be doing new construction? Just remember to listen and learn what you can. And doing things right the first time saves a ton of headaches in the end. Good luck.
@Jfosh, My goal is a union job for a huge supplier. It'll be tough but that's my goal.
@Kitchen Knight, not a bad goal, takes a good amount of time, but it is worth it.
@Jfosh, I'm sure you know and respect the answer to my following question, but I ask to see how many people know how many volts does it take to kill someone? How many amperes?
@City87, I won't spoil the question, I'm curious to see what people think. And one of those is not nearly as important as the other.
@Jfosh, another question I have is what is the main difference between an electrical circuit in a vehicle compared circuits ran in a home?
@City87, AC/DC. Although some homes are now running DC in some countries overseas (or so I heard) although a lot of control applications use low voltage DC (fire alarm, access control, intercom, cctv, etc...) and conductors are opposite. Had a new guy run all the fire alarm with black as positive and red as negative. Made for a fun day.
@Jfosh, from what I remember in my Biomedical Engineering Tech classes (which was many years ago): V = IR. And from what I recall, both voltage and amps move in relation to each other, but with a lower resistance (say standing in a puddle of water), a higher amp could be really dangerous. I've also been zapped by a 120v main line because I didn't do a lockout-tagout, and that stung rather a lot.
@Jfosh, aww, it only hertz a little bit. What happens when the wire runs out of electrons?
@ComradeOtis, 1 amp can kill you. In fact in the right conditions (or wrong I should say) a 1/4 amp can kill you. The flip side of that is a tiny amount (amperage wise) of 480volt will just tickle. Got a nasty surprise at my brothers house. They used the ground (bare copper) in the romex as the neutral. And the lights in his house all switched the neutral. Oh it was bad. That's why you always put your eyes on something before risking your life to it.
@Kitchen Knight, you will get shocked dozens of times over your career, it doesn't hurt much if it just goes through your hands. You need to respect electricity but fear is detrimental
@Jfosh, it will be quite a shocking experience!
@Stabby, I named my crochet hook after you
@Jfosh, WATT? I CANT HEAR YOU
@mattswife, this is all I've ever wanted.
@Jfosh, this is to weed out millenials, thinning of the herd
@Stabby, i enjoy you
@Sheoldred, haha thank you much I enjoy all of you as well
@City87, it's the combination and depends on how much, how it flows through you, your health, how long, how grounded you are. If you feel it, leggo that electro.
@Jfosh, it'll be fine probably
@Jfosh, yea I forgot this. We had a mains 240v AC wire and a Twin and Earth to use as a timer cable (no voltage) I grabbed the live one and hit the floor like a sack of potatoes
@Jfosh, it's called natural selection. Let it happen.
@Jfosh, quiet, we're trying to weed out all the stupid ones
@Kitchen Knight, lock out/tag out!
@theTruth9, need a way to curve the population
@Jfosh, to late
@Jfosh, my dad was an electrician growing up.. I remember a time when I was probably about 10 and I was helping him change a switch, and he said the power was off... My dad lied. Then told me a story. A story about how his dad did the same thing to him and he thought it would be funny....
@Stabby, not with mah ears.
@Jfosh, cut the wire but the you have to find the box to be able to strip and reattach the positive lead.
@Stabby, you are either kidding, or fvcking retarded.
@Legid , I'm gonna go ahead and let you peice that one together yourself. You seem to be the only one who is confused.
@Stabby, I KNEW IT! YOU ARE RETARDED
"Let's let natural selection handle this." -StuckPixel
I hate these kinds of posts because there are actually people that don't realize it's a dumb thing to do and may try it and be injured or killed
@TheCulturedSwine, natural selection.
@TheCulturedSwine, that means less dumb people. Seems like a win win
@George Feeny, so just because someone doesn't know that this is dumb, they deserve to die? Just because someone does 1 dumb thing doesn't mean they're a dumb person and even if they were you don't deserve to die just because you're dumb. I know plenty of dumb people that are really nice
Legally this could get StuckPixel in trouble. Approving posts like this one could misinterpret this as a DIY and hurt themselves.
@TRITERION, Natural selection.
@TRITERION, no legally it can't. Trying to argue that a funny picture app told you it was a good idea will not stand up in court
@TRITERION, legally their app name is called Funny pics not home improvement
Once you've done this stick a coin in the outlet the wire is connected to, in order to make sure it worked. *The more you know*
@DJ Roomba, i usually use a fork connected to metal hangers while sitting in my pool..the water displaces electricity making it clost to nothing
Thanks for the tip, my brothers trying to do this right now to fix an outlet!
@Fat Beef, tell me how that goes
Sometimes I think that it has stopped being Funny Pics and is now like Post Whatever You Want Pics
@Han Trollo, try posting a picture. You will not succeed
This works great if your bread is in the toaster, just kink and get it out with a fork!
I am an electrical engineer, and I approved this message.
*Deathnote Meme Edition*
As an automotive technician I'm laughing quite hard!
This was very helpful i rewired a breaker box and only had my heart stopped 5 times
The internet told me it was true, therefore it must be.
If I die, I'll sue.
What exactly does this do?
@Pope Temporal, like, I know it's bad. Why?
@Pope Temporal, that's the point, it does nothing. Unless the wire breaks, bending it does not stop the flow of current.
@Liquid Stuff, ah. Thank you.
I do that with my wiener when I want to save pee for later
