This goes back to a pic I saw a while ago that talks about how the president in 2048 is probably on Twitter right now talking about eating ass.
@Glorious Grapefruit, nah fam were cool, i stray away from such topics, I only refer to dank memes on twitter. 👌
@Glorious Grapefruit, isnt there like a whole movie about two people hibernating for 500 years?? Only to wake up and find the world on the brink of destruction because pf how stupid people became? I remember one scene was at a cinema where 'the only good movie this day and age is a man farting for 3 hours'
@NunuGod, that movie is called idiocracy
Lets just ban tumblr. I mean free speech is fun, but they would ban ours...
@Pope Temporal, Tumblr: Don't use slurs, they're harmful.
Yall: the founding fathers didn't DIE FOR THIS
@Pope Temporal, unfortunately that would be hypocritical and someone has to be the bigger person here, we can't all demand views that oppose us should be oppressed, only whiny little tumblrtards do that
@jouze, But why can't freedoms like freedom of speech have limitations? The thought that many seemingly have that freedoms must be limit free doesn't sit right with me. I don't see the hypocrisy in setting forth certain rules for what can not be discussed. One could argue that free speech would then be an illusory construct confined within the boundaries of the rules we set forth. If that's the case, then I don't see how true free will can exist since free will is analogous of being in a jail cell, and the walls being our own human nature. We are free to walk around wherever we want inside those walls, but we can never escape beyond our own nature. Also I seem to recall freedom of speech was originally brought about so people could talk about politics without fear of persecution or prosecution (can't remember which). Now it seems this freedom is all encompassing. I'll end with an out of context quote from Tony Stark. "If we can't accept limitations, we're no better than the bad guys."
@Qu9ke, If we start banning speech we don't agree with, then where will it end? Will we start banning speech that goes against the mainstream? Then ban speech that goes against the government? Free speech was set up mainly to allow people to criticize the government and not get punished for it. Censoring speech that we don't agree with is a slippery slope. I'd rather let the the tumblrites keep spewing diarrhea from their mouths and keep free speech intact than risk getting the freedom of speech get taken away completely.
@CriTiKa1, Too much of anything is a bad thing. Does freedom of speech (the way it is now anyway) have enough value in itself to justify the negatives? Personally, I think it's debatable. It is nice I'll admit, but sometimes I find it might be necessary to punish the many due to the irresponsibility of the few by limiting freedoms many of us take for granted.
@Qu9ke, I say a "few", but I'm really talking about a pretty big group of people.
@CriTiKa1, I do agree it is a slippery slope btw. I don't think humans are responsible enough to handle limiting what we can and can not talk about as far as free speech is concerned. However, if humans were responsible enough for that, then they probably wouldn't need restrictions anyway.
@Qu9ke, Exactly. We give the government the power to censor a "few" people then there's nothing stopping them from censoring anything they don't like. If we give them the power to take away one person's freedoms, then we give them the power to take away everyone's freedoms.
@CriTiKa1, Well. My argument works more under the assumption that people are responsible enough to handle the power of censorship. I think that kind of falls apart though since, like I said previously, if the ideal world existed where people could handle freedoms responsibly, people probably would be responsible enough to handle freedoms without restrictions. I do still stand by the idea that censorship in and of itself isn't a bad thing though.
@Qu9ke, utter neo progressive tripe. Not only is it a slippery slope to start banning speech, but WE DO have limits on free speech. Harassment, threats, and instigating public unrest (yelling fire in a crowded theatre) are ALREADY ILLEGAL AND EVERYONE IS FINE WITH THAT. That's not what we're talking about. That's not what people want censored. They want opinions that contrast with their own to be censored. They want to subvert discussion by claiming that opposing opinions threaten and offend them. I've been told I should be arrested for claiming that most men aren't rapists, and I've been kicked from a college course for daring to claim that women in the first world don't have it worse than women in the third. That's the kind of speech people want censored today. They want their emotionally charged tripe to run unopposed, because they know their ideas will eventually fall on the battlefield of public discourse. Even those with bad ideas should be heard, only to be refuted.
@Italian Mobster, the number of holocaust deniers is at an all time high, and do you know why? Because we no-platformed them in the 80's and 90's. We drove the idea underground before public discourse could summarily defeat the idea. We put a bandage on without cleaning the wound. In the words of Christopher Hitchens: "let the heretic be heard, for if his ideas don't have merit, they will die in public discourse." If you ban an idea, you don't stop people from thinking it, you drive it underground, where it can fester and infect more people than if it was brought into the light and killed.
@Italian Mobster, You do raise good points there. I've just gotten so sick of things I've seen online over the months that I think I let my anger toward people cloud my thinking, and I wanted to believe our freedoms were being taken advantage of too much to the point that action needed to be taken. Not an excuse, just an observation.
@Qu9ke, I completely understand. Human beings are sh*tty, and the anonymity of the Internet brings out the absolute worst in people. Some people are racist, sexist, homophobic, or some just want to hurt people. However, the answer to their bad ideas isn't silencing them. Sewing someone's mouth shut doesn't change what they would say. Prove their ideas wrong with logic and reason, and they will either change or they'll cling to their archaic ideas, and subsequently be laughed at for them, and that laughter will drive other people away from those ideas.
@Pope Temporal, tumblr is actually really cool if you don't follow the blogs of feminazis and such
@jouze, it was a joke. I don't say anything serious on this app :)
@Pope Temporal, oh no. This was a joke and it started an argument. I am sorry. Please stop fighting; we shouldn't limit free speech
@Pope Temporal, that's true but it's not only on tumblr
@MayITakeYourHatSir, your right they didn't die for this none of them died during the revolution
@Qu9ke, we only have boundaries because of ideas like racism sexism etc we have been conditioned to self censor for fear of being called reason that's why many people are arguing for no topics to be off limits
@Qu9ke, I bet you want a safe space.
@Qu9ke, you say you've seen posts online that make you angry and it clouds your thinking, then it seems that you're the one who needs to gain the responsibility to handle free speech, not the rest of us to handle censorship. I'd guess you've said things that anger people, but what if you were told you weren't allowed to suggest what you're suggesting? That'd be kind of ironic, but you get my point. Without free speech, people may not be allowed to criticize it.
False. Everyone who claims to be 12 is secretly a cop, a pedo or a bear trust me I know.
@XV88 Broadside, do you happen to be all 3?
The time has come. Take shelter my brethren.
Our forefathers tried to warn us the saw the storm on the horizon but we kept on now we see the faille in our ways if only we could go back to back to the past said samurai jack whacha!!!
I'm pretty sure the male to female ratio on this app is like 10:1 and 7 of those dudes are under 18. Explains the constant stream of anti feminism and geek fandom though
@Paul Newman, well feminism is stupid as hell so.....
