@Michael Fassbender, i honestly hope you aren't being for real right now. Music is wonderful in a lot of ways and isn't just something to help you get laid. Its an expression of an emotion or tells a story or conveys a message. Whatever the genre is music is more than just for dancing.

I like classic and folk rock but my friends think thats garbage too. Everyone has what they like and what makes them happy so why argue what you cant win?

@Hugh J Rection, have you listened to the backgrounds? I don't know of one pop artist that could do A.) An actual good blast best B.) Aperggio sweep pics at 250 bpm C.) Be windmilling for hours on end while playing advanced melodies as well as keeping perfect time. Not to mention they will stay after the show and party with their fans because they actually like them. I play in a folk metal band and after years and years of practicing our instruments as well as choreography, I can tell you it definitely takes talent to play in a metal band.

Here's a chunk of a metal song filled with "disgusting," lyrics, and the whole time its being sang with harsh vocals (or as you called it "screaming") I see a golden light shining far away I can't tell if I'll make it there someday I reach my hands but there's no one on my path I can't sleep 'cause my body is burning Cold sweat, cannot breath, I'm loosing my mind Reflection in the mirror shows a different man at night And as hours and seconds pass by I feel my every feeling wither and die Do I really feel this pain Because sometimes I can't tell if I'm awake Watching to the night, the hope is gone Carrying so much burden in my heart Watching to the night with tired eyes Waiting for nothing all my life That's not even half of the song. If you actually would listen to it, lots of it is deeper than you'd imagine.

@Hugh J Rection, here's the thing, those types of metal genres with lyrics sung they way they are meant to feel a certain way. I think there is a lot of expression in the lyrics when they are sang with harsh vocals. Yea I agree some bands are a little over the top with the lyrics but death metal isn't the only genre with "disgusting" lyrics.

@PTMA, it was kind of different hearing it live but it was still amazing. They had a projector showing a bunch of 8bit style images and videos as they played which I thought made it more epic. If you're even just a casual fan of theirs I think you'll really enjoy it

I'm not hating on any sort of music here, but I have to say I fall more into the "normal" person category, and I don't call any of that music "rock". I'm pretty sure most people can differentiate between various rock genres and most metal genres, unless I'm missing something and they're the same?

@icantfindmyfamily, genres change over time and like trying to fit anything into neat little categories there is always some amount of overlap in subgeneres and some items can have characteristics that belong to several. Not to mention fusion generes. For some of these I'm sure you'd have to be REALLY into it to hear whatever distinctions and keep them straight.
