Burned him worst than a thunderbolt of lightning that's very very frightening
@TriangleTesticles, a "thunderbolt of lightning"
Whats up with the last panel? I need a magnifying glass to read it
Fun fact: Galileo refused to provide the Pope with any evidence of his theories, and actively mocked the Pope by straw manning him in a dissertation. The moral of the story is that even if you're right, be prepared to present your evidence and don't be a dlck.
@Vance Stubbs, Or at least don't be one so small that you would need a magnifying glass
@Vance Stubbs, yup! The story is very often, almost entirely, misrepresented. A lot of his assertions, while true were not at the time verifiable so they were all essentially scientific guesses. He was a visionary so they ended up being right (along with a few pretty glaring, though fine, errors) but it was really unprovable at the time. That's what the church had a problem with upsetting the status quo over unverifiable things.
So that's why he was burned at the stake
@FriendlyFirefighter , Actually, Galileo was super old so they just told him to renounce his theories and put him under house arrest. Giordano Bruno, and thousands of others, however, were burned at the stake for crossing the church or their views
@Luna 5, also I think the pope was childhood friends with Galileo if I'm not mistaken
@Luna 5, false. Bruno's was a state trial because he was a psycho. Not really a scientist. A mad dreamer. Admittedly not a reason to kill someone, but different times.
@HammerOfHerertics, He was initially arrested by the Inquisition, which is of the Catholic Church.
He was a dreamer and a little out there yes but he was well educated and defended Copernican theory.
At the stake..
Of old age
@Shentei Zei, I know, he actually kept most of his discoveries to himself until he was very old because he knew exactly how they would react. I just wanted to make a joke :P
He did it, the absolute mad man.
The savagness is to strong for the average savage this is so savagously savage that savages savagely murder savages that killed other savages with a single savage jello cup
Galileo's a fvcking savage
I read this in Rick's voice. Seems fitting
Read Galileo in Patrick Stewart's voice
