I'm his defense maybe you shouldn't have been doing something you enjoy in public without first asking if anyone's preconceived opinions about traditional gender roles would be in jeopardy if you do the thing you enjoy that doesn't affect anyone.

@Dr Mr Moseby Phd, I'm not going to lie I can both see this as being real to an extent but I sorta doubt the person used that comeback. It sounds more like something you would think up in the shower afterwards and wish you had thought of it at the time.

Honestly 99% sure my mother knows this man. If anyone has ever touched a ball of wool in their life, she k n o w s them. It's like knitter senses or something.

@Valederption, try crochet. In my opinion it's easier to crochet a hat than knit one.
