Following your dreams and passions is terrible advice for kids. It’s not always practical. You can live a wealthy and comfortable life by working at something you’re not passionate at, or you could waste tens of thousands of dollars and years at college for a degree that ends up being fairly useless. Welders, plumbers, and electricians get bloody good money.
Dunno where that rant came from.
Maybe after so many years as a @FP Waiter?
@FP Waiter, hey actually I'm a student right now currently in high school graduate year have no idea wtf I'm doing after this. I planned to be a doctor but then my home life fell apart and I scrapped that goal. My new goal is a Plummer because my uncle is one and he seems to enjoy it. Is this a good path? Last thing I want is to screw myself over. Sorry for the long post
@A n00byNubeNewb, idk where you are but America is facing a huge skilled labor (electricians, plumbers, handymen) shortage as baby boomers retire. There’s definitely money and work in those fields.
@A n00byNubeNewb, trades are amazing ways to make sh/t loads of money, get a good life skill that can help you in the future, and meet some really cool people. I would talk to your uncle about it to see what he thinks. Maybe he can show you all of what he does and why he enjoys it.
I went into college looking at mechanical engineering. I wasn't really sure what the hell I wanted to do, I was just told that it was a good field. After 2 semesters and a summer class(and changing majors 3 or 4 times) I realized the one thing I wanted to do for SURE was not go to school anymore lol. So my dad helped me out and got me into a construction gig as an industrial electrician out in the middle of nowhere. I had more fun doing that than anything so far. Several years later, I ow work in the chemical plant/refinery fields doing inspection work and it's the best decision I've ever done.
@FP Waiter, Mike Rowe says stuff like that all the time. He's like my all time favorite dude
@FP Waiter, see I'm up in Canada so I don't know if trades are my best route. I have no experience with them as of now so don't quite understand job availability
@Richard Cypher, cool! I like hearing people's stories of school. Helps me get comfortable with my situation/future :) I've been planning to talk to him soon about schooling and if plumbing is the best option going forward. It seems like something I would enjoy
I once dreamt I had a threesome with Jessica Biel and Jennifer Lawrence. Please let me follow my dream
