I am completely okay with transgender. However, I believe that if someone hasn't gone through with the surgery yet, they should continue to go into the restrooms that match what their genitals are.
@Blue Elephant, I disagree with you for two main reasons.
1) Many transgender people never get surgery, some can't pay, others find it too risky, and some just don't care about which genitals they have.
2) It's quite important for all transgender people to be able to use the bathroom of the gender they identify as. Their only real goal is to be treated as the other gender by society and everything that keeps them from achieving that can have a significant impact on their mental health.
Besides, why should I care what genitals the person in the next stall has? It has no effect on me whatsoever.
@Depressed Panda, agreed also those non gender binary people are full of themselves
@megamanx181x, I'm perfectly fine with people who want to be neither male or female as long as they don't make up a personal gender.
@Blue Elephant, but... but... if I claim to be a woman too...
I CAN SEE BOOBS...
*looks into woman’s stall*
*Woman screams on the toilet*
“It’s ok, I’m a woman on the inside”
@Depressed Panda, I want to thank you for stating why you disagree with me calmly and respectfully. I really appreciate that, and I completely understand where you are coming from.
@Imaginaut, I'm honestly not sure if you're mocking transgender people or mocking people who mock transgender people.
I'm not good at reading sarcasm in internet comments.
@Depressed Panda, I’m actually mocking the situation it creates where anyone can now easily lie about being transgender so they can ignore gender specific areas for the purpose of sexual desire.
@Imaginaut, Ok, then. Well here's what's wrong with that.
1) There's almost no reports of anything like that happening.
2) People who peek into or enter another person's stall can still get arrested. Claiming to be transgender doesn't exempt you from laws.
3) If they didn't do that, all they would get to hear is people pooping.
4) If possibly being sexually attracted to other people in a public bathroom is grounds for not being allowed in, then shouldn't homosexuals be banned from public bathrooms?
5) You are suggesting that we force transgender people to use the bathrooms the fit their birth gender, which is a serious detriment to their mental health, because some perverts might go into the other gender's bathrooms and either jerk off to the sound of them taking a sh!t or try to peek on them with the defense being that they're transgender. Shouldn't we just punish those people for being terrible instead of punishing transgender people for other people being terrible?
@Depressed Panda, Not to mention that some individuals don't look like "their sex." If I was a ftm who passed well but went into the ladies' room because I had a vagina, I'd most certainly get the cops called.
@Depressed Panda, this
@Depressed Panda, the way i’ve thought about it is transgender people say there’s a difference between sex and gender. They say they’re gender is different, not sex (chromosomes will always remain what you are born as).
Therefore if we’re going to assume that’s valid, i believe we should only allow them to chose gender, not sex like some want to. In other words, when it comes to things such as which bathroom you use, where the difference is for biological differences, not gender based, they should follow their sex. The same goes for sports, I don’t find it fair when someone who was once I male wants to compete against females, they have a clear advantage
@Theuns, sports is it's own issue that I won't get into, but the bathroom issue is different. Transgender people really just want to live their lives as a member of the other gender would. If every time they use the bathroom they're reminded that they aren't really able to be that gender, it can have a serious toll on their mental health. If that's the effect not allowing transgender people to use the public bathroom that fits the gender they identify as has, why not just let them?The only downside I can think of is that the idea of using the bathroom near someone who might not have always been the same gender as them makes some people uncomfortable. And that doesn't seem to be worth sacrificing some people's mental health.
@Depressed Panda, well that's where Id have to disagree I guess. I don't see it any different to sport.
And we can let them live according to that gender, but my point is using that toilet isn't something that someone of that gender uses, it's something that someone of that sex uses. When it comes to toilets gender is irrelevant, it's a biological issue
@Theuns, the only difference between men's and women's restrooms is the presence of urinals. There's no difficulty for a transgender person to walk into the restroom they prefer and use a stall.
I understand that you see bathrooms as differentiated by sex, but they don't need to be, and if they aren't then transgender people can live much more comfortably.
@Depressed Panda, I actually find this topic very interesting. Mainly because it’s so controversial. First off the transgender population makes up such a small proportion of the population that most people will never even notice if a transgender person walked into a bathroom you are in. Secondly, the majority of the opposition anybody has is the pseudo situation the other person brought up with some guy claiming to identify as a woman going into the girls bathroom for sexual reasons. The funny part of this issue is the fact that it’s already socially acceptable for women to go into the men’s restroom; but taboo the other way around even in cases of emergency. So literally this issue is about who can and can’t use the women’s restroom.
:: looks at genitals :: "Ok I see machine guns and a propeller, now what?"
@Cobaltqube, go to the airport
@biolojist, butt feelings...
@correction, sounds like something I can get behind.
Go in the door that says "get help"
You are not special there are millions of people just like you special snowflakes don't exist get used to it
I sexually identify as an attack helicopter
The way I see it, if a man goes through the process of getting his penis INVERTED INTO HIS BODY, then let them use whatever bathroom they like. Its not like they will be going to the bathrooms to spy on people, because when you get a sex change you cant feel pleasure from sex anymore
@Duncan5769, I think the issue some people have is less with post-op transsexuals and more with the idea (I’m not saying I agree with it, just explaining what’s in their heads) of some bearded dude going “yeah, I identify as a chick today” and walking in to the ladies room with his wang out.
@Nellybert , and thats a crime. “I identify” isn’t a get out of getting punished for a crime card
@Dexios S Divine, Damned right.
@Dexios S Divine, but that's the thing. They want "I identify" to legally mean whatever they say after that. So a guy going into the women's locker room with his wang out but saying "I identify as a woman" then no one can do anything about it. Then if the business does something about it then they get lawsuits and slammed for discrimination
@Richard Cypher, Going to the bathroom is one thing, being a creep is another. Identify however you want, it won’t make you immune to a crime
NO DICKS IN THE LADIES ROOM
