I really hope the Thor one is true
@Fightin First, It is
I love these! Coolest part though is that ive always wondered how i would classify my personal belief in god and the term Deist sounds like it may be a perfect fit
@Savage Sloth, May I ask what has caused you to think deism is true?
@Buddha Bleu , well ill start by saying ive never heard of deism til now so idk if i side with it or not but here is my own personal belief. I believe heavily that there is a scientific answer that explains practically everything. I also believe there are questions that are impossible to answer such as how did life come to be? And what is lifes purpose or meaning? I believe god is somehow the answer to those unanswerable questions. Id like to think he created everything and truly does love all his creations. I also believe he plays no direct impact on reality though. But perhaps he watches us and loves us? Does he answer prayers or impact life positively or negatively? Personally i dont think so. Tbh i couldnt really tell you my true beliefs because I dont really know. I believe in heaven. Couldnt tell you why other than I like how it sounds and i want to believe in it. And i dont see anything wrong with that. A different way i like to think of religion is that in a way all religion is
@Savage Sloth, (continued) true. Whatever a person believes as far as faith and religion goes, impacts their lives personally. Whos to say buddhism, christianity, islam, and everything else arent all true. People can argue they conflict in beliefs but hey no religion can prove anything. Just like aethists cant prove there is no god. So to summarize i believe there is a god. Couldnt tell you why but i do. And i believe the only direct impact he has on our lives comes from whether people believe in him or not because those beliefs impact how people act. He himself does nothing, but watch. If you believe god gives you strength, then i bet you are stronger. Not because he makes you stronger but simply because you believe he makes you stronger. In a way i guess im trying to say people can bring truth to their beliefs by themselves.
I understand not a dam word i just said makes sense but im rolling with it haha
@Savage Sloth, read Age of Reason by Thomas Paine. He was deist and makes a good argument
@Savage Sloth, your part about belief making you stronger because you believe it does is actually true. It’s similar to the placebo effect. I’m pretty sure it’s actually been studied as well.
@Savage Sloth, We have a rough idea of how life began that involves self-replicating molecules, but no coherent, conclusive theory. Life appears to have emerged from complex chemical processes and the evasiveness of the answer is diminishing. If the idea is correct, life may not have meaning/purpose at all. As for heaven/hell, liking how something sounds isn’t typically a great way to uncover truth. If I like the sound of my race or sex being superior to all others, I wouldn’t be entitled to spread the word and act accordingly. It seems to me that religions cannot all be true. Christianity is founded on the notion that Jesus was resurrected, but Judaism and Islam both deny this. Deriving some form of mental courage from one’s beliefs is fine, but the truth of religious claims isn’t contingent on how helpful they may be. One question: how could one prove that X does not exist, whatever it may be?
@Buddha Bleu , none of what you said is unreasonsble. Beliefs dont equal truth. Im not asking for explanations nor am i claiming anything to be true or not true. All i inquired was there may be some truth within every belief. Not the entire premise for every belief to all be true. Religion, god, purpose of life. These are all grey areas for mankind. Everyone has their own belief or own scientific theories. Im not gonna lose any sleep pondering the truth for those areas because i dont believe that there is sole definitive truths for those areas. Maybe there is, but i doubt those truths will be found. All im saying is when it comes to topics like these i dont think they are worth arguing over. Everyone has their own beliefs, some are supported by more evidence than others, but im confident in saying nothings proven and im doubtful many of these topics can be proven or disproven. Yes its more logical to believe in theories with more evidence and support but let ppl believe what they want
@Buddha Bleu , to reiterate in not searching for truth nor am i explaining why something may be true or not true. All im saying is there may be truth in morals or values of each belief. Some beliefs/religions may be absurd of course, but it takes a whole lot of convincing to shake people from the beliefs they surround their lives on. All im saying is let people believe and act however they wish. Unless of course those beliefs aim to cause harm or conflict with people who differ from those beliefs, which infortunately is sometimes the case. Its a shame that people, no matter what they believe, cant recognize causing harm to others serves no purpose
@Savage Sloth, I agree for the most part, but I do think the ideas are worth arguing over. The world is vastly too complicated for everyone to simply believe what they wish; we might take that approach, but I think we could create a better future using factual claims as guidance.
I don't remember seeing that big snake in Bioshock: Infinite
First off I didn’t think there was much brain left to save from Kennedy’s head. Secondly yea right lost, some jerk stoled it and has it on his book case
