Except that the Church didn’t do that. He died in his bed. And he was a priest. And he was funded by his uncle, a bishop. And he dedicated the book to the pope. So apparently, we shouldn’t get our history from tumblr.
@Toad, ya, the Catholic church didn’t have beef with that for like, 60 years almost. He was paralyzed in bed and was 70 or something
@Toad, to be honest that's how I remember it. I thought the church threw him in jail too. Or was that Gailileo?
@Toad, thats just what they want you to believe! Personally i do t know take the word of a comment? Or the word of a tumblr post? Maybe ill research. Im not sober. I should stop typing. Goodbye.
@Toad, and the Church actually supported his theories. I believe
@Toad, he WAS threatened to renounce his findings by the church. His study was funded by the church and he didn't even want to do it. He knew the church was wrong and didn't want to be branded a heretic but he didn't want to go against the church or break a commandment by lying. So he did the study, reported his findings, was told to stfu about it and he was happy to do so.
@Quoth the Revan, correct
Five hundred forty-oneth. What is the rest of the post even about, thats all i can see..
@LV100Charizard, I read it as five hundred forty-firth
@John MFing Froosh, I heard that was Colin Firth’s nickname.
He published his theory on the day he died, so the church wouldn't be able to burn him
@Sexy Homunculus, assakshualllly..... he supposedly *got it back* from the printer on the day he died, months after he agreed to publish it.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t it Galileo who suggested that the earth rotated around the sun?
@Thane of Deez, no it was Copernicus. Galileo added to the theory substantially though
@Thane of Deez, and the church also didn’t set him on fire. Or even excommunicate him, etc. It took issue with his lack of evidence on a few of his claims.
@HammerOfHerertics, they did sentence him to life in prison
@HolyCatchphrase, false. House arrest.
@HolyCatchphrase, sure. If that’s what you call living in an Italian villa with every comfort you could imagine and freedom to keep doing science.
@HammerOfHerertics, I’m just being literal. He was sentenced to life in prison and due to his old age he got house arrest instead. It’s not like the church was just cool with him, they charged him with heresy.
@HolyCatchphrase, I mean you’re right on all counts. Just making it clear he didn’t live out his days in any sort of suffering.
But yet the earth is flat
