If the USA pulled back globally and focused most of its own efforts on self improvement via technological advancements including electrical power, thereby removing any dependency in the middle east’s oil reserves, you could master space flight decades ahead of any competing country and basically colonize space for the interests of the USA and her people, but that’s none of my business... *sips tea*
@I Are Lebo, Sounds like you're going for a Civilization Revolution science victory
@I Are Lebo, not that I disagree but imagine the violence when people aren't pacified by oil money
@I Are Lebo, Although I don't disagree with pulling out, I do disagree with the rest. We could say a lot more money if we reduced social welfare, which is on the verge of destroying us.
@I Are Lebo, that's why we have Elon Musk.....whom I'm still debating may or may not turn out to be a supervillan in like 15 years.
But in all seriousness, I completely agree with you.
@Not him again, um, Elon Musk is as much a leach on government funding as welfare recipients.
@Mit, ok....care to elaborate on how these two things can even be remotely compared to being similar?
@I Are Lebo, sounds great, but the US doesnt exist in a vacuum. If we pull out other powers will move in and probally limit our trade, and foreign groups will still attack us. The world will still spin on without us and we'll still be at risk
@Not him again, that's why we have the space-x engineers he over works and doesn't give overtime to, you mean
@I Are Lebo, I’ve been bitching for so long for the u.s to stop caring about the rest of the word for AT LEAST a couple of years and just focus on itself. God damn fever dream that is
@Thatbright, even if thats true, what in the hell does THAT have to do with government funding? Also, it's called working on salary. That's how salaried jobs are. It's illegal not to pay hourly employees overtime. But please, I want to hear your answer to my question
@Not him again, I didn't say it didn't have anything to do with government funding and it is illegal to do it that's why space-x has had several lawsuits about it
@Thatbright, my bad I thought you were replying to my second comment for some reason. That's the first I'm hearing about the space-x thing though
@Not him again, oh no I am not sure about the gov funding, but I'm at school for aero engineering and that's a big thing. Apparently space-x has had a few lawsuits since they would make the engineers work 60 hours a week minimum and would make them clock out at 40 but wouldn't let them leave and all that. That's why it annoys me when everyone freaks out over everything musk says since that's basically another 5 hours a week of unpaid overtime for the engineers lol
@Thatbright, yeah I'm salary now, so I don't get ot anymore. But I do get comp time. I go on vacation....a lot lol
@Dexios S Divine, the USA butts its nose into other countries business and spends more on defence than the next 24 countries combined while their infrastructure collapses around them, and they see no problems with that.
@Autismo, we spend something like half of our yearly governmental expenditure on social welfare alone. On the order of $7,000,000,000,000-$8,000,000,000,000 annually. If we need budget cuts (which we need on the order of several trillion a year) that is certainly the place to start.
We can't defund the already overstretched, under-equipped military while simultaneously acting as the global police (US military operations are currently underway in over half of all countries) while also having almost 100 military allies or protectorate states. Over half the world basically depends on us and our military might. We can't exactly drop that on a dime.
@I Are Lebo, We spend that much because every other nation has left us to be the only military super power. We're giving missile defense systems and ICBM shields to our NATO allies like its candy to ward off the threat of rogue nuclear states, while simultaneously monitoring them with military satellites, nuclear subs, aircraft carrier fleets, etc while most of the rest of the world twidles their thumb. We lead almost every UNSC initiative, and pay for the damage left behind, and invest for military instruction and training for several dozen countries, including those torn apart by terrorists, civil war, and genocide, things that we are actively engaged in prohibiting in something like 50 different countries throughout the world.
Maybe the rest of the world spends so little because the US military could hold out the mainland 48 states against the entire combined might of the entire rest of the world indefinitely, and they just have us do all the work, and pay to fund the UN as well.
@PB2, You seriously need to put down the kool-aid and start looking at the world how it is, instead of through these delusions.
The delusion that the world depends on the USA for anything is a pervasive one based on nothing but lies and self deception.
For instance, are you aware that the United States of America, both government and private corporations, were the largest support structure of the National Socialist Party? The Nazis were able to wage war because they were supplied with vehicles and munitions produced in the USA.
America has been the single most successful source of strife in the world in the last century, and the only reason why the world goes along with it is because even if the rest of the world banded against the overwhelming might of the USA, we’d only succeed in destroying the world.
This is why I scoff when America calls out other countries for trying to develop nuclear weapons. America is the only country to have ever used nuclear weapons to kill citizens of
another country, and the USA is a stockpile of nukes sufficient to destroy the entire world several times over.
There’s no consistency with America. One President can undo all of their predecessors actions with impunity. How can any other country make any deals with the USA when the absolute maximum any deal can be guaranteed to be held up is eight years?
The USA is not an ideal that any other country holds up anymore. You have the largest prison population, you are constantly restricting freedoms, and your country is literally on fire. This is blind faith. The USA hasn’t been closer to a civil war since they actually had one, you’re led by a psychopath terminally unqualified for the job, and your country is falling apart.
So I genuinely don’t know what the fück you’re talking about.
@Oujosh29, your argument makes no sense. If the USA stopped meddling, they’d face LESS attacks. Why would countries attempt to impose sanctions on the US for not interfering in their business? There’s no logic there.
@I Are Lebo, if they hate us this much now, imagine how much they'll hate us when we aren't giving them trillions of dollars in trade
@I Are Lebo, You have no f_cking clue what the hell you are talking about if you stand by the claim 'the world does not depend on the US for anything.' (From your second paragraph. Apparently the idea that the world depends on the US for anything is "nothing but lies and self deception"—an ironic point given the absurdity of the claim.) You are either so biased, or so willfully ignorant that I do not see us as being able to hold a rational discussion about this.
@PB2, the world depends on the us because we offer the dependence
@PB2, tell me something. How has the United States of America benefitted from any of its campaigns in the Middle East?
@TheGreatPwn, off topic, but what the fück kind of rating system is Stuckpixel using where 42/2 is less than 28/0?
@I Are Lebo, I noticed that...and it confused me too. Best guess is highest like/dislike ratio. Bet if you had 43/1 you'd have top comment.
@TheGreatPwn, it’s a stupid system that allows downvote trolls to remove comments from the top two fairly freely.
@PB2, by the way, I love how you tell me that I don’t know what I’m talking about, while not refuting a single one of my points, and then fleeing from the conversation when I ask an entirely reasonable question that defends my point.
You aren’t a patriot, you’re a zealot for American propaganda.
Ah yes. Let trash like Iran build a nuke. Then when it spills over into other country’s, they cry for help. I agree, let them just kill off themselves.
@Mit, sounds like a great plan
America first, huh? Now where have I heard that one? *trump train roots horn behind me* *unbeknownst to me I’m standing on the tracks*
*U.S.A does something*
People: why doesn't America mind it's own business!?!?
*U.S.A does nothing*
People: America how can you let this go on?!??!
I highly doubt it's that simple.
