You shall have no other gods before Me
You shall not make idols
You shall not take the name of the lord your God in vain
Remember the Sabbath day
Honor your father and your mother
You shall not murder
You shall not commit adultery
You shall not steal
You shall not bear false witness
You shall not covet
@WelI Obviously, okay so I'm no expert but one and two seem like the same thing as well as ten is the same for seven and eight because I remember thou shall not covet their neighbors wife and thou shall not covet their neighbors goods
@WelI Obviously, but now that I looked them up I'm very wrong.
Edit: Except the false idol one, unless there are different lists that are interpreted differently. I think it's replaced by the second covet law
@18bluecat, From my understanding, it is that number one means nothing should come before God. Meaning we shouldn't focus on other deity figures, or make objects (like money) more important to us than God is. The second is more about physical creations of worship (worshiping idols you have actually made). Implying that we should pray to God or worship Him directly rather than needing a statue to pray to. But, there are many interpretations through different religious groups. That's how I understand the difference though.
@WelI Obviously, "you shall not have any other gods"
"you shall not make idols"
JESUS IS GAWD PRAISE JEEEZUZ JEEZUS IS DA LAWD
what the literal fûck?
@lemongrenade, The Ten Commandments originally come from the Old Testament. Long before Jesus was even a thing. Then there's the whole "Holy Trinity" thing where God, Jesus, and The Holy Spirit are all the same thing. That part's always confused me a bit.
@Yukimura, There's also a lot of difference between religious groups as to "The Trinity". From what I interpret it as, I think they "are one" as in united in purpose. I don't think they are one person combined given that Jesus gets baptized by John while God speaks from above (somewhere else) and the Holy Ghost is "descending like a dove". Three separate entities united in one goal. But yeah, I think most go with "The Trinity" as them being the same. That belief confuses me as well haha.
@SpicyCracka, nah. They’re one in “substance”, not in purpose. John 1:1 explains it as well as it can be really understood - the Word (the Son) was with God (the Father), but also was God.
@18bluecat, in Judaism, what Protestants list as the first and second commandments together form the second. The first for them is “I am the Lord your God who brought you out of Egypt. That may sound odd, since it’s not a commandment, but the word “commandment” is really a bad translation. It’s really something more like the “ten sayings” - traditionally known as the Decalogue. Catholics traditionally combine the first and second of the Protestant ones, and split the tenth into “goods” vs “wife”.
@WelI Obviously, I break 8 1/2 of those daily
@Toad, I know, but them being one in substance but then in 3 different parts doesn't make sense to me, and I have never met someone who could make sense of it and explain it to me in a way that wasn't just "it is how it is". If the "best way it could be understood" is "this person here was with this other person here but also was that person" then I probably will never make sense of them all being one "substance".
@WelI Obviously, I just realized the only one I HAVEN’T done is murder. Am I going to hell?
They would display the Commandments in the Senate and House?
I hope they aren’t applicable for Presidents.
@Donald Trump, 1st presidential commandment: don’t let tiny lil $hit@ss dictators do anything without antagonizing them.
@Donald Trump, 2nd presidential commandment: tweet constantly about how great you are, and how dumb everyone who opposes you is.
@Donald Trump, third presidential commandment: have really tiny hands. Like seriously make them so small children will be crying in fear.
@BigJohnson86, damn, I was on a roll.
@Donald Trump, fourth presidential commandment: every time you give a handshake with someone important tug them in like your going for a man hug. But instead whisper your master plan in their ear to watch the fear in their eyes up close.
@BigJohnson86, ✅✅✅ It’s amazing how many leaders don’t know who Hydra is.
@Donald Trump, fifth presidential commandment: have hair so perfect everyone is convinced it’s a wig.
How about Separation of Church and State? Hmm? One of the primary reasons why America seceded from Britain in the first place? Ring any bells?
@I Are Lebo, no taxation without representation was the reason we left british rule
@mycatsanahole, that was the biggie, yes. I said “one of”.
@mycatsanahole, besides, we Canadians got that without having to secede.
Thou shalt not kill.
Don’t covet thy neighbor.
Don’t lust after another women.
Treat others as you with to be treated.
