It’s not the worst thing he could’ve said
I had something for this but it was too dark...
@fettman1138, well ask it to smile so you can find it
I can’t help but think that calling attention to this as being racist and punishing him is admitting that it’s somewhat true. Which is racist.
@Richard Cypher, Its not racist if its true though
@Richard Cypher, it’s a really common racial stereotype. Saying it’s racist is just a well-understood piece of information. The boy wouldn’t have used it as an insult if it was just a fun piece of trivia.
@Richard Cypher, He wasn't suspended because it may be true, he was suspended because he said racist stuff... if he said "at least my job isn't to pick cotton" he would have been suspended as well even though clearly the player doesn't pick cotton for a living.
@Blasphemy is Fun, but if he actually knows the kid and he happens to not know his dad, then it isn't a racist remark, it's a personal one regarding his actual lack of knowledge of his father. I haven't looked into the story to see if this is the case, I'm just saying the statement is only racist if that's how the kid meant it.
@Richard Cypher, it’s not a racist. It’s stereotyping.
@Doctor Yak, I went to highschool with this kid, I'm 90% sure he was being a douchebag and meant it to be racist
@spelcheck , then he got what he deserved. I was just saying that the statement is not inherently racist even if it fits a racist stereotype, although it was obviously intended to be hurtful, and thus unsportsmanlike and warranting punishment. So, yeah, I guess I just realized the point I was making is completely irrelevant because the outcome should be the same regardless of the context.
@Richard Cypher, it's only racist if we wouldn't issue the same punishment if the roles were reversed or race was completely removed from the equation (so, for practicality purposes, 2 white guys). I kind of feel like no punishment would come of this if either of those were the circumstances though, so it's racism in favor of black people at the expense of other people (I would say white people specifically, but I want to be charitable and assume that if a person of another race, hispanic let's say, were to have been the offender they would have been suspended as well).
I mean, he’s just talking sh*t. I don’t see anything wrong with that. I’m 200% sure if it was reverse towards the white dude with a white stereotype, nothing would happen.
Well... is it true?
This actually happened at my university!
Everyone made way too big a deal over it.
@vesrox, I go to the offending University. 😅
@hardlyharleyquinn, offending or offended? I meant I go to the place the offender came from.
@vesrox, Well then small world because same! I thought you maybe went to A&T because that’s where the match was.
