The guy on the left looks like if he could, he'd sleep with your wife, while the guy on the right looks like some who you could ask for help moving furniture and he'd be over in 15 minutes.
@ourbedtimedreams, I disagree. The guy on the right looks he'd say yes to helping move your furniture because he too afraid to say no to people and then when you actually need him he'd flake. When you ask him about it later he'll say he forgot but you both know he just couldn't be bothered to get out of bed.
@ourbedtimedreams, Except when he gets there you realize that he is so weak he can barely lift a folding chair by himself, he doesn’t understand angles for big furniture, and when you try to give him directions (“move to the right. . . yes your right”) he senses your frustration and says “I just can’t stand it when people are mad at me” and sets down his end of the sofa halfway out the door and takes off in his Saturn for some “quiet time to think about this friendship”
@ourbedtimedreams, I think you mean "The guy on the right would sleep with your dad if he could"
Here's the thing though, if this guy on the right is happiest looking like this, why do people care and look down on him for not pretending to be all macho when he actually isn't? Why should all men have to be macho and not be who they actually are inside? I don't think it's modern culture creating people like this, it's just that people are now feeling comfortable being open about who they are and not pretending to be the guy on the left on the outside while inside are the guy on the right and drinking alcohol out of flasks all day to deal with the stress that comes with putting on an act all day. People think trans people are a disgrace sometimes for transitioning, but when dudes act feminine without doing that that's also a disgrace? The only solution then is to hide yourself to make others happy and that's selfish to ask of people
@Ostrich Thief, I don't care if you are trans, but I disagree with tucking in your shirt, unless for formal occasions, the shorts look too tight which looks uncomfortable, and the shoes don't go with the rest of the outfit.
I don't care who you are, just have some basic fashion
@NSA is watching you, lol I agree
@Ostrich Thief, I definitely agree that people should dress and act however makes them happy (as long as they aren’t negatively impacting others ) but we also can’t pretend like the way people dress doesn’t impact how we perceive them, or pretend that all ways of dress and/or behavior are equivalent/equally respected (or should be for that matter)
First impressions are a real thing. Like it or not, If I were to look at both of them, (in a professional setting) my brain tells me that the person on the left has a better chance of being stable and responsible. However that is EXTREMELY likely to change and the majority of people I hang out with/trust look more like the guy on the right (including myself)
It’s not hard to dress presentably (is that a word?) at work. But if you are a grown man and want to wear short shorts, high heels, and lipstick to my house for D&D night? Knock yourself out.
@TheColossalTitan, wow, those D&D nights at your house sound magical! Can I come?
@Ostrich Thief, It's not about looking macho, it's about dressing to impress. The guy in the left looks professional, respectable, and mature. The guy on the right looks nothing like what I just described. First impressions are extremely important, and the guy on the right is not making a good one.
@Im Innocent, I gotchu, I interpreted this picture as being symbolic of people disliking the trend of men behaving less manly than in the past rather than about the lack of good stylistic decisions
@Smurf309fs, Of course, the more the merrier!
@Ostrich Thief, beautifully said
@Ostrich Thief, I actually dress more like the guy on the left pretty much all the time. Not full suit, but slacks and a button up every day, and when it’s cold, I’ll wear a big coat like that, and toss on my fancy ass bowler, which really ties together the aesthetic with my handlebar mustache and pointy beard. I love feeling like I look good, and when someone describes me as dapper, it makes my fvcking day. That being said, the guy on the right is doing his own goddamn thing. His motivations for how he looks are different from mine, yours, or the guy on the left’s, and doesn’t make him any less of s person. Not to mention, a hell of a lot cheaper. If you were to dress like the guy on the left all the time, that is, low balling, about $200 an outfit. Besides, who’s to say that’s how the guy on the right even dresses all the time? Maybe that his version of wearing pajama pants to Walmart. Everybody deserves to wear pajamas to Walmart if they want.
@Berntley, this might sound hostile, so just know that I’m aware that our opinions align in this matter.
@Ostrich Thief, dude, if I could buy you a drink for your initial comment. I totally would. You perfectly reflect something that I say often in a rant I make about 'manliness', and why it's more 'manly' to be yourself, than follow arbitrary rules and expectations of other people.
@NSA is watching you, as a Gay man, I agree and all I can say to that outfit is Ew.
Cary Grant on the left, great actor. Judging by his age in this photo it’s propably taken in the late 1940:s or early 1950:s.
@Rapunzel, Thank you! The Hollywood buff in be was urked by 1917 under Carry Grant! Someone needs to redo this with Charlie Chaplin or Buster Keaton.
@Rapunzel, agreed. The 1917 was bothering me also. But I also understand it was for comedic effect and not historical significance too
@Cobaltqube, I know it was for the joke. I just wanted to ”promote” one of my favourite actors.
@Rapunzel, one of mine too and not just his work with Hitchcock. John Robie, Old lace and even Op Petticoat too.
@Cobaltqube, A person of excellent taste, I hear!
The problem with this is that neither picture would be how the average man dresses in either time. You can take pictures now with someone who looks just as good as the guy on the left or you could have taken pictures then with guys who look just as bad as the guy on the right. It could also be the opposite depending on your taste
Featuring new and improved, Technicolor!!
There's a man in one picture and a twat in the other. No correlation.
Every day we stray farther from God’s light
And they wonder why the white population is declining. Seriously, would any woman sleep with that lilac?
We have to go back
@benderama, yea... about that. I’m pretty sure I don’t have the right complexion to have that work out lol
