To be fair, teaching is a mine field...I knew a teacher who got suspended for breaking up a fight because he's not supposed to touch the students in any way, but security wasn't around, so the proper reaction according to administration was to just watch them fight without doing anything
@Tegu Trump, as a teacher myself, I sadly can confirm this.
@Tegu Trump, Wouldn’t the proper reaction be to tell them not to fight, even if they don’t listen?
@Blasphemy is Fun, proper reaction should be whooping both their asses for fighting, but that'll get you fired these days
@Tegu Trump, kind of want to be a teacher now being given this information...
@Tegu Trump, lol yeah I meant proper reaction according to the administration, since they can’t touch the students to break up the fight they should at least try telling them not to fight.
@Blasphemy is Fun, I don't know, the teacher might hurt the students feelings with his raised voice
@Tegu Trump, I was verbally abused by this teacher!
@Tegu Trump, In high school, we heard a girl-fight break out in the hallway. Our teacher ran outside and around the corner. We waited for 2 minutes. She came running around the corner and stood in the doorway with a look of complete shock... and holding a weave. She had a tiki head in the room, so she put the weave on him.
I guess she won?
@Tegu Trump, lol I have a teacher who broke up a fight and the kid started screaming at her so she splashed a cup full of water on the kid. She felt really bad and the principal got angry at her but every student was proud of her.
@Tegu Trump, How about taking bets on the winner? Is that allowed?
@Nellybert , only if you let the principal in on the action, and give him a good spread
@Blasphemy is Fun, nope. That might hurt their feelings
@Tegu Trump, Oh yeah, gotta give the big dog his cut off the top. Rules of the yard, man.
@Tegu Trump, I still remember in elementary school, a kid started a fight with me, and I defended myself. I didn’t win by any means. Then I got in trouble for fighting back, because that’s not “the appropriate response to bullies” so we BOTH got detention. Administration’s views on school matters are fûcked.
@nuno714, teaching is weird. It's both very rewarding in some aspects, and very soul crushing in others. I lasted as a teacher in Philly for a year because the soul crushing aspects were too much for me. My wife has been teaching for 10 years now, and she focuses on the rewarding aspects and tries to brush off the soul crushing aspects as much as possible. All the best to you if you decide on this career.
@Blasphemy is Fun, no the proper reaction is to break up the fight before it escalates any further
@Tegu Trump, yea just look at what happened to Liam neeson
@Tegu Trump, yes. Please hit children to teach them a lesson. That hasn't been shown to cause any long-term psychological damage. Fantastic idea.
@Depressed Panda, it's called a joke. If you want my real opinion, the teacher ideally should be allowed to break up the fight and the administration should discipline both students. Unfortunately, I've seen way too many incidents of administrators too afraid of parents to discipline and teachers punished for doing the right thing
@Tegu Trump, ok. I've just seen people here actually advocate corporal punishment, so I assumed you were serious.
@Depressed Panda, that's understandable
@Tegu Trump, my school was without security (and students, we were around 300) and the teachers would be the first to break up a fight
@Medic135, I think alot of it has to do with the district, how reasonable parents are, and how much administration fears parents...unfortunately, parents assume that their kids never lie and all teachers are idiots, so any accusations can get really out of hand
Who tf says “a gum”

Bully yourself too to make it even more fair
How are you gonna teach them to solve their own problems if you don't let them fight for themselves?
Better yet, back them up. Both of them. Teach them equality.
