I think that games with an interesting visual style still hold up even today. I just got done playing Psychonauts again, and that holds up really well in my opinion! Art style will always beat fidelity; just look at what Nintendo consistently accomplishes with their games, being on systems that are weaker than the competition.
@JakeMartin, Windwaker on the Gamecube still looks great, but that HD remaster is godlike.
@NotJesus, I really want to play the remaster, I haven't yet!
@JakeMartin, You can probably find a Wii U for pretty cheap now that so many have moved onto the Switch. Honestly the Wii U still has quite a few great exclusives so it'd be a decent investment to get one now.
@NotJesus, With the way the Switch is going right now, I don't think anything will be exclusive to the WiiU for much longer. Nintendo's using the Switch as a port machine most right now, it seems, and I think that's a really smart move on their part.
@NotJesus, But I don't have a Switch either, so I'm unfortunately an outsider looking in. :P I definitely do want both though!
@JakeMartin, You're best bet might be to save up for a Switch since it's definitely getting more Wii U ports in the future and of course Super Mario Odyssey makes it more than worth it to have.
@NotJesus, Yeah, that's a good plan. I'll definitely wait on the WiiU for when the Switch ports die down, to see if there's any exclusive game left on it worth getting.
@JakeMartin, psychonauts is still one of my all time favorite games and I think it subliminally made me want to study psychology
@JakeMartin, one game that I found to be ahead of its time was KotOR, I still play the hell out of that game today
@JakeMartin, Kingdom Hearts 2 holds up pretty well visually. I was replaying it not long ago on the PS2 and I was impressed.
@JakeMartin, I completely agree. I would argue that Okami looks better than Skyrim.
@Mr Sarcastic, Yeah, Psychonauts, Bloodborne, and Fallout: New Vegas are probably my favorite games of all time right now! I loved the psychological themes Psychonauts touched on too, especially in the Asylum levels. Edgar's mind, Black Velvetopia, is probably my favorite!
@FullMetalAlcoholist, I don't think I've ever played it, regrettably. I saw that it's on Steam though, so I'm definitely going to catch up on it next time it's on sale!
@Aaron Leibowitz, Yeah, that Disney cartoon-style still holds up great with Square's engine tech!
@SimonPetrikov, Oh yeah, no question to me either. I love how Okami looks, whereas I can't stand looking at vanilla Skyrim for more than an hour.
@JakeMartin, yea this is the same with borderlands in my opinion, specifically 2 since it has a little hue. It’s nearing 6 years old and still as lush as ever
@fkingdonn, I love that cell-shaded look too! Jet Set Radio is another really great looking game with that same style.
Just got Kotor on my Xbox 1 and while its not the oldest game to compare, damn we've come along with graphics. Use to think it looked amazing when I was in like 2nd grade
@Swolekage, I feel ya. I have to find a balance between my KotOR obsession and my headaches from the old graphics. Yet, it didn't bother me when the game first came out. 10/10 would recommend with a side of aspirin
@Swolekage, just found out that you can get it on android.
@Swolekage, kotor is one of my all time favorite games. I love you.
I dunno if its just nostalgia and rose tinted glasses, but I still have a ton of fun playing old PS/PS2 games. Ive always cared more about how a game plays than how it looks though.
Speaking of classics though, who else has heard that spyro is getting a remaster! I literally shed tears at the trailer.
This is why I can't play Morrowind
It is the weirdest thing - I had this recently with an old Spider-Man game I picked up for PS2 - I always remember it being so realistic! But then when I played it back I realised how bad the graphics were! Didn’t take away from any of that nostalgia though!
Just started FFIX recently. Cutscenes are amazing. The rest... Pixelated mess
"Please! I have a FAMILY!!😣"
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne and Metroid Prime still look great today.
I grew up starting on the atari 2600 and nes. Everything after that looks good to me.
