But they would have to be born in the US...
@TaskMaster, tell that to Ted Cruz.
I believe if both your parents are American born than you are eligible.
@TaskMaster, that seems like an easy fix we just invade England make it a part of America and boom the baby can be an American too, I’m just trying to be helpful
@Duncan5769, incorrect. You need to be a natural born citizen
@TaskMaster, yeah that's part of that. Ted Cruz was Canadian
@TaskMaster, unless I’m completely wrong, I think they meant the part American baby can become prime minister of England? Idk they did use the word president but maybe they are dumb
@Duncan5769, just one American parent and your good.
@George Feeny, *Imperialism intensifies*
@TaskMaster, if the baby happens to be born in the states while they are on a trip there, its very possible
@NameyMcNameFace, neither parent needs to be American. You just have to be born on American soil to be a natural born citizen
@Salem, that’s one way to do it. However ted cruz was born in Canada to a Canadian father and American mother. Making him a Canadian and American citizen.
@NameyMcNameFace, American citizens can run for president, and as long as you're over 35 years of age.
@Shodai Hokage, and lived in the us for 14 years.
@Duncan5769, Nope. Born in the Us. Both my parents are citizens born in the Us, but I was born in Russia and adopted. I can’t run for President, but I’m a US citizen. Natural born was created so that all future presidents would have to born in the Us, so some English guy whose a citizen and was born in England can’t just jump in and be president and return us to a British colony. Why do you think the birther movement said Obama’s was born in Kenya? (His parents were citizens). Because you must be born on US soil/sea/airspace/US military vessel. Citizen was only if you were a citizen at the time the constitution was established.
@Nurse Joy, or if one of your parents are you can run. Seriously just look at Ted Cruz, why are we even arguing Itz it happened 2 years ago.
@buzz killinton, agree, since they called all us liberty lovers “traitorous colonials”.
@TaskMaster, I just looked this up after reading all the comments. I️ learned that you had to be born in the USA (ship, soil, plane, military base, blah blah) to run. But if you go by English Common Law, which every state except Louisiana does, then the definition of a “natural born citizen” is more flexible. A citizen “at birth” would INHERIT its citizenship from its parents. The constitution mentions nothing about geography of birthplace. If they do not have to “naturalize” then they are a natural born citizen.
@Duncan5769, he can run, but he couldn’t be elected. He’s not natural born. . I quoted the articles, “natural born of the United States of a citizen at THE TIME OF THIS SIGNING OF THE CONSTITUTION”. Citizen ship is no longer used!
@Nurse Joy, if one of your parents is considered a US citizen, no matter where you are born a US citizen as well making you kinda born in the US.
@Dr Kriegerstein, “kinda”. Kinda is not natural born on us soil/airspace/sea/military vessel. My parents are US citizens but I cannot be president because I was born in Russia. I’m a Us citizen. Natural born is what the articles call for. NOT if you have citizen ship. That’s why there was the Obama birther movement. If he had been born in Kenya even if he was a us citizen, he couldn’t have been president!
@Nurse Joy, negative, if one of your biological parents is a US citizen then you are a natural born US citizen no matter where your birth occurred. There’s nothing unclear about that, there’s two ways to be a natural born citizen and that is being born on US soil to two non-citizens or being born anywhere and one biological parent is a US citizen.
@Nurse Joy, In 1790, the First Congress passed a naturalization act stating that “the children of citizens of the United States, that may be born beyond sea, or out of the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural-born citizens…” While no longer in effect, this act may indicate that the framers of the constitution (many of whom served in the First Congress) contemplated that such foreign-born citizens would be considered natural born. Some constitutional scholars, including former heads of the Office of the Solicitor General Neal Katyal and Paul Clement in a recent article, argue that this thinking is also in line with the definition of natural born at English law at the time (and thus that such citizens are "natural born" as used in the constitution).
@Nurse Joy, John McCain was actually born in the Panama Canal Zone when it was controlled by the United States. An official ruling was made in his case that he was eligible when he received the GOP nomination in 2000, but this was pretty much academic.
@TaskMaster, I read that they plan to live in the US
@Nurse Joy, but your adopted. Not born. It’s a legal definition.
@TaskMaster, a natural born citizen is considered anybody who is eligible to become an American citizen by having at least 1 parent being born in america or themselves being born in America. Soooo their kid would be eligible to become a natural born citizen just by living here for 14 years as a US citizen.
@George Feeny, no uk will laser your eyes out
Two problems with this. 1. She had to give up her American citizenship to marry into royalty, and 2. Eligibility to run for president has no bases on parantage, but being born on American soil.
@xbumblex, we allow them to think this, when in fact we are the ones who have infiltrated their monarchy
@xbumblex, I find that funny, you get to be American or you get to be royalty. You can't be both.
At this point america might need some help from mom again
@Dexios S Divine, we’re beyond the point of help
Nobody’s gonna take the position seriously by then. Trump is reducing the presidency to such a joke, he makes Zaphod Beeblebrox look like a steadfast leader.
@Berntley, north and South Korea peace, fixed up the trade deal with China, pulled out of the bs Iran deal. Seems to be doing alright
@Berntley, Ok, I'm not necessarily a Trmp fan either, but this joke had absolutely nothing to do with him. Don't make a nice meme unnecessarily political
@Richard Cypher, I guarantee you these are all in pursuit of personal interests. There’s gonna be a Trump Tower in NK, and there’s so much shady shît going on with Trump’s Family and Middle East dealings, I can’t even keep track. Meanwhile, he pushes a message of division and hate, and is a complete egomaniac, with an emphasis on maniac. He’s not “doing alright”, he’s driving the largest and most corrupt political vehicle on the planet to further his own agenda.
@Richard Cypher, how the fück was the iran deal bs
@Genieinabotle, Honestly, I wasn’t even thinking of it as a Trump joke at first. It’s more the entire political system, but the presidency has been moving in this direction for years, with Trump just driving in the final nail. The working of our country are pretty much a farce at this point.
@Dexios S Divine, well first Iran never even signed it soooo
@mycatsanahole, they were forced to comply with it or face sanctions, to stop them from making nukes....
Don’t make us invade you.
As if british royalty would win an american election.
I don't care what anyone thinks of any candidate in the last 30 years. British royalty running for president would not succeed.
Or maybe they’re just a dysfunctional veteran.
Hmm. TV personality weds bearded man to produce ideal American pop-star offspring. Checks out.
