I’m so sorry, but this is the only social media i trust now... My parents were involved in a shooting a days ago. There was a clearly mentally ill man who heard voices so he shot up a bar near lake Hefner,’Oklahoma. Y’all, I️ agree that people should be able to have guns if they want. This shooter was actually shot dead due two people with guns they retrieved from their cars. I’m just so afraid now. I️ live in a nuclear target city and my family in the Midwest Is targeted as well
@shnickelfritz, it may seem like it happens a lot, but it really doesn't. Something only feels common when it happens to you. Violence in general is on the way down. That being said a schizophrenic should have zero access to any firearms, this is the biggest problem we have and no one wants to talk about it, they just want to talk about the guns.
@shnickelfritz, I grew up about 10 minutes away from lake Hefner. Scary stuff
@Autismo, The gun debate needs to be moved over to a debate on mental health. America doesn't deal with poor mental health well.
@shnickelfritz, are your parents ok?
@Weird Porn Stash, I know and it's so sad, because I hate the senless killing of innocents but I believe in gun rights and I'm constantly told I only want more people to die. Why can't we just have a rational conversation on live TV so everyone can see and people can get informed and then formulate their opinions so we can actually get policy that works.
@shnickelfritz, I personally don't want to own a gun, but I believe people should be allowed. At the same time I don't live in the USA, I think the main problem is the United States media making the shooters famous. They tell you their name, and show you their face. They tell you what he was like in school, anything they have on the guy.
With such a large population, there are bound to be a few people, desperate and unempathetic enough, to do it for attention.
If you ask me, if the media really doesn't want more mass shootings, they should stop talking an it the shooter, or even just stop talking about the shooting for a week.
@Autismo, the sad thing is that the current debates are all or nothing. No one will compromise for a feasible and effective middle ground. They're too stubborn to believe there is an answer that isn't theirs. Worse, is that people think one problem is the only one. Get mental people health, OR take away all guns, OR give everyone guns... there's more to every shooting than JUST the guns.
Personally, I don't like guns being so common, but it's America's way of life. It wouldn't be America if they weren't. But if that's the case, we need to be smarter about it. And yes, we need to talk about it honestly. But no media I know will do it fairly, so it's up to us to change it by talking to each other.
Long post, I know, but if you can't put up with reading this, there's no hope for having that reasonable debate.
@NeroSaber, I'm a big supporter of open discourse and discussions so I'm always up for a good conversation. My main thing with the second amendment is the idea of a malitia, I think it's important for the government to know not to try fvcking over it's citizens. But I also believe in self preservation as well, but that is a choice so it's fine that some don't own one for that reason. What do you think we should do? Because I haven't heard anything purposed so far.
@Autismo, the militia thing is interesting... it was included because we were scared of the gov't forcing their will on us by using our military. One, if they really tried that today, would we really be able to stop our f-ing military with just our ar15s? Two, all the people I've known in the military had a "I serve the people, not the govt" vibe to them, so I'm not scared that they'll come to do that even if the govt ordered it. Hell, that's exactly how quickly we would fvck their shjt if they tried to take over.
So, a militia is really a comfort for the people, but that's what the guns are for already. We don't trust laws to keep us safe, but we'll trust our own ability to keep us safe. Thing is, there's a lot of people I know with guns that I really, really don't like being around. They think they're GI Joe, and if shjt got real, bystanders would be hurt. I don't mind a knowledgeable person knowing their weapon; I don't want just ANYBODY to have weapons of death so easily
@shnickelfritz, A lot of shjt is happening in the world right now, and it's getting loud. I'd recommend just staying away from the news and social media for awhile just to clear your head. Hope things calm down for you.
@NeroSaber, You see I think this is were the disconnect happens. If you remember in Germany not all people supported the government, but because they removed the peoples weapons they were basically defenseless to those who did. Not everyone in the military will obey, but there will still be those who do, there always is. AR15 are also more than capable especially with guerilla tactics, I know the GI Joe types but just like everyone else at the range the always check their weapon correctly, I mean there are people who drive like maniacs and there a ton of deaths a year from car crashes.
I'm stealing this response, it's not copy righted!
That’s insulting to detective potato, yes he’s special, but he is doing his best
That retort would’ve been better if they hadn’t misspelled *accused*
