Shieeeeet I don't know, a space military force would be extremely innovative for space technology and has been hypothesized to be the start of a new trillion dollar economy based on space tourism and goods transportation, don't hate an idea just because you hate the person that thought it.
@ Seductive Cheeto, this is exactly what I’ve been saying to anyone that pokes fun at the idea. Space force would be like nasa with the budget of a military branch. This could be the push we need to make some real advancements. Also Russia has had a “space force” in the past for a while so this isn’t exactly a new idea.
@ Seductive Cheeto, this branch is needed and should have been done years ago. Can’t wait to see what it looks like in a few years.
@ Seductive Cheeto, thank you! I’m so sick of people (and the media) making out like literally everything Trump says or does is pure evil. The fervour against him is so ridiculous it’s pushing me to actually want to support him just to piss off the snowflakes.
I just don’t understand why people need to lie about a man that has genuinely said and done some horrible things.
“Grab her by the pussy” was taken out of context. He was saying that when you’re famous, people let you get away with things you otherwise can’t.
“He’s separating children from their parents!” Firstly, Obama was president when that started, and what’s the alternative? Lock up the kids with the parents? These people are felons, that’s why the kids are taken away.
You know what’s not made up? Trump advocating for killing the families of terrorists as a deterrent. Why is no one talking about that anymore?
@I Are Lebo, I watched a clip of Stephen Colbert recently and it was just him bitching about Trump. The audience was laughing like it was the best skit ever but there was only like one actual joke in there.
@ Seductive Cheeto, it doesnt make sense to invest that amount of money in space when we cant even solve any of the problems on earth. It will just become something to draw attention away from the real troubles.
@Implicit88, That's not how innovation comes along, investing in new industries is the way towards the future as technology advances differently as the perspective changes, we have the chance to venture a new frontier of technological development that may give an untold bounty of intellectual treasure and discovery, but because other fields are lacking then we simply shouldn't? That would just lead to stagnation and not really lead anywhere, sometimes you can't just throw money at a problem till it goes away. Look at the invention of antibiotics for example, or that of xrays, or the internet itself, it wasn't money that discovered those things it was experimentation of unknown fields of study.
@ Seductive Cheeto, where's the money gonna come from though?
@Murder Boner, taxes, probably a reduction in the air force or navy, and then after the legs are under the idea private investors will surely pump the branch full of money.
@ Seductive Cheeto, i agree new technologies are useful, however, we have other pressing matters that need to be resolved. Scarcity is one of the biggest ones. Our population is growing too fast and soon we will no longer be able to feed everyone, the increased population also means that disease will spread faster. Automation also means there will be less jobs (ai is being created to create more ai that can solve issues). There is more i can add but i wont. One of the biggest issue with a so called space fleet is that it could potentially start another cold war, right now we arent allowed to have weapons in space based on international law. Another issue is these can’t be manned for the long term until we can harness gravity. This means, it will all have to be remote controlled which means it will be hackable. There is already nasa, we don’t need a military force in space at this time.
@Implicit88, There is a growth model that proposes that as a nation becomes industrialized individuals with have less children due to the lower necessity for them, the countries that have the most problems with the biggest overpopulation problems are third world countries like India, new forms of cheap space transportation of goods may give them the boost necessary to industrialize and therefore fit this model, also we will need to find away to keep thousands people fed and healthy in space which could mean new forms of production of medical supplies and food that could help with the lack of these resources in other poorer countries. This new branch of industry will also create many more jobs, and we are still in a cold war bud, look at the nuclear clock plus US soldiers still kill Russians during skirmishes in the middle east.
@Implicit88, That doesn't really make sense, we have exercise techniques that allow humans to remain healthy in space for months, advancement of this technology along with advancement of technology necessary to breach space will allow us to keep our outposts and space stations manned. Btw I'm pretty sure satellites are supposed to be unmanned, and the international space station is always staffed
@Implicit88, scarcity is a problem however space has hepled solved part of the problem. basically they needed to figure out how to get enough water for the trip to mars. the solution? Recycled water, they then brought that technology to countries with water scarcity. now I am pretty sure they are trying to do it with poo so it can be edible and also nutritious. Solving problems that can occur in space can produce technology that can also be used to solve problems that occur on earth.
@ Seductive Cheeto, could also be an international powder keg
@ Seductive Cheeto, I have to look into the specifics because I have yet to actually read anything about it yet, but I fvcking hate Donald Trump and everything he stands for.... but I mean... a fvcking space force? That’s what I’m into, Starfleet here we come.
@ Seductive Cheeto, honestly, the list of things we enjoy because of the military are amazing! GPS, microwaves, the jet engine, canned food for emergencies. There’s more, I’m sure, but I’m excited to see what types of advances come from this new move.
@ Seductive Cheeto, if i remember reading correctly what the space force is now used to be part of the air force branch. Sattelites and something else. And hopefully adding onto it as time continues.
@I Are Lebo, THIS
We have a "space force". It's called the US Air Force. You know who is the most powerful AF in the world? USAF. You know who the 2nd most powerful is? The US Navy. Making a dedicated Space Force is like taunting Russia and China to build up their arms and rekindle the Cold War. Where we can fear nukes from space, "rods from God", asteroids, nearly hemispherical distruption basically bring half the world to it's knees in an instant. Trump may not see it like that, but that is a very possible and likely path that he would take us down. Skipping with turtle-kneck and American 'Oligarchs'.
There is an international treaty against actually militarizing space. And for good reason. (See above)
"Let's be like Russia" is a terrible motivator. "Let's be better than Russia and Russian scientists and engineers" is better. Let's outdo Russia in space but not as a military. We don't need a "space force" to support asteroid mining and living in orbit until we actually have to protect...
@mas2de, our investments and people up there. We have a Long Long way to go and a Lot of money and time before we'd need armed forces in space to protect Company A's assests that will bring $$$$$$$ to our country. And there really isn't much reason for one to want to try to attack any operation in space except Just to start a war. There are more asteroids than we know what to do with and catching up to and destroying anything man-made in space is going to be extremely difficult for us for a long time. Any and all launches are easily sensed. Satellites are a different story, but the rockets that get them there tell us all we'd need to know about where it's going. The US currently spends $700+/- B on our military. We get a lot for it. Yeah there are cases of corruption and unoptimal contractors, but that's beside the point. We spend too much on building up a military that we don't need and not enough on pushing students to be the planets most effective and brilliant minds. Not enough...
@mas2de, caring for our troops once they come home. Nit enough making sure we're not completely fvçking out planet into a coma that could bring humans to the brink of extinction. We need to Not have a space force. It's a distraction and the money would mostly be essentially pissed away. Trump's administration would hire companies that somehow funnel money to their friends and families with no real oversight and they'd try their damndest to suck our nation dry for their own personal gain. Trump's administration Already does this. Scott Pruitt's millions spent on personal items and living in the lap of luxury on our tax dime. Betsy DeVos' family of corruption and damning their students. Ivanka trying to squeeze deals out of China for herself and no one else. Etc, etc. Instead of blowing our wads on a retarded space force, how about we invest that money in innovation for a cause. Put people in space. Build a colony on the moon. A group from as many cou tries as we can get. A military in..
@mas2de, space would Never do that for us. We don't move to forsaken shjtholes just because our military went there. If we do, then we leave the very moment that the military leaves.
We've innovated basically so that we could be #1 in the past. It was called the soace race. We can race to put a colony on the moon. Or humans on Mars. Or bring back asteroidal precious materials back. All just to prove we could. That's when we were #1, when we innovated just to do it. Pay SpaceX or Blue Origin or best current option C that has No links to corruption and BS to build our own Skylon and make space travel attainable and affordable. Maybe Elon will beat the rest of the world to it and maybe his pricing won't be out of this world expensive. (Though justifiable)
A dedicated Space Force is stupid. No matter who brought it up.
Sorry for the long af post. 🥑🍠🍪
@Killing instincts , certain things for space can help, but we dont need starships or any of that. How can we conquer other planets when we can even get a grip on our own? We need to innovate for the good of human kind not because we want to go to war, that is not the path forward. Once we innovate to create utopia, everything else will be a lot easier. While new technologies could help poorer nations, we can develop these without the need to create an armada for war. We are putting ourselves 2nd to progress, we instead need to progress to put ourselves first.
@sushi fish, why not just give more money to N.A.S.A.
@I Are Lebo, I mean, the families are just trying to find a better life. You could just send the family back. And the whole space force thing, just give more money to N.A.S.A. There's really no need for a space force.
@afro samurai2012, “just trying to find a better life” isn’t an excuse to sneak into a country through the metaphorical backdoor. There are legal avenues to emigrate to the USA for a better life, people have been doing so since the country was founded.
If you have access to food service programs and financial aid, it’s not justifiable to steal food to feed your family. You have a legal alternative, so taking the easy way out is a lazy shortcut.
As for space force, I highly doubt the validity of these claims, but if one country could get an actual functioning weapons platform in orbit, that’s a massive step forwards to the unification of the human race (for good or ill).
@I Are Lebo, a lot of the families are fleeing gang wars and, I understand that what theyre doing is illegal, but I understand why they do it. Legal avenues take forever and they feel like they don't have a lot of options. But the main point is we shouldn't separate the families. Also, N.A.S.A., they need more funding. Just give them all our money so I can meet a sexy alien babe.
@afro samurai2012, how you feel doesn’t exempt you from the law. More importantly, if everyone from a country that is suffering from poverty or violence flees the country, that country will never improve. It isn’t the job of any one country to provide support for everyone around the world living in squalor.
@I Are Lebo, true, but the law doesn't matter to you when your family is starving and gang$ are rampant. And improving a country isn't something that happens over night; it takes sacrifice, but . people have families to worry about so they leave their country in search of a better one, just like people have been doing since forever. And regarding law, just because something is a law doesn't mean people will follow it or it is just. Not arguing against people coming into the country legally, I understand that. It's just difficult, time consuming, and people in dire situations just don't give a fvck. However, I do agree that if effort was put into a country, it could greatly improve which, in turn, improves the world. Basically What I'm saying is, I understand both perspectives.
@afro samurai2012, I do as well, but the basic truth of reality is that if you are caught stealing money, it doesn’t matter that you were stealing to feed your starving family. There are legal alternatives that are being ignored in favour of fast and easy solutions.
The law applies to everyone. That doesn’t change just because you’re desperate. That’s incentive to break the law, not justification for doing so. If you are caught illegally crossing the border, you have decided to take on the dangers and risks of doing so. Why you are doing so is irrelevant. If you are in immediate danger from governmental or criminal reprisal in your home country, the appropriate response is to present yourself at an embassy or border crossing and apply for asylum. Not to cross the river in the dead of night and sneak across hundreds of miles of desert.
Biden may not be VP anymore, but his memes are just as dank as ever.
He’s just Biden his time to mock Trump
You mock it now but you'll be thankful in 20 years when you dont have to speak alieneese
I can't believe people are actually considering this as a legitimate business strategy. Do any of you actually know astrology? Space isn't some handy dandy playground with a bunch of cool planets. Space is space, it's a fvck ton of nothing. It's thousands of years of travel; it's a hostile, uninhabitable environment. A space force would be like sending troops to the bottom of the great barrier reef or the top of mount everest. There is no point. Space travel is a billion dollar money disposal can. Unless Bill Gates wants to pay the first 100 million $ for a ticket to the moon, it will never profit. Science can only make something x much cheaper, which is why we have a space program. We will not in a hundred years be able to send non-astronauts to space as it is just a huge waste of resources. The amount of power required to go to space, is not gonna change and neither will the cost. What would space troops even do? There ain't shjt in space.
Oh my God, that explains it perfectly...
