Reasons why it’s my favorite holiday:
1. Don’t have to leave the house
2. Kids come to me for my free candy
3. I can tell them how cute they look
4. Parents don’t look at me wrong and call the cops
And it’s socially acceptable to have sex in public while wearing a penguin costume
@DwayneTheCockJohnson, weak stuff. Call me when it's socially acceptable to have sex with an actual penguin
@Kangaroo Jacked, penguins and kangaroos are ok in my book
It's when furries dont have to hide
Is penguin a new word for slut?
I love Halloween but it isn’t a real holiday. It’s a hallmark Holliday, meant to sell candy and costumes. I suggest adding legitimacy to the Holliday by adopting the day of the dead from Mexico. Same candy and costume fun but with the added purpose of remembering our ancestors. Would also make it a holiday adults could better participate in and make it a holiday you could get work off for. Would generally make it a more legitimate holiday.
@BearDaniels, Except it had it's roots in Anglo and Celtic pagan rituals that Christianity then took over with All Saints Day Eve in an attempt to drive out paganism.
@BearDaniels, yeah, maybe do a little research before crapping all over the single greatest holiday ever
@Suicide Squad Sucks, I feel like this is basic knowledge though. How did they not know that?
@BearDaniels, I don’t really care but downvote cause spook
@18bluecat, I literally learned this from a Goosebumps TV movie that aired back when I was in middle school or high school, so over 13 years ago.
Edit: the name is "The Haunting Hour: Don't Think About It," and it aired in 2007.
@Dillusionist, I did not know this was gonna be so contentious. yeah that’s what it was about but it’s lost that meaning entirely. I guarantee Most people don’t know that. Functionally it’s about candy and costumes and getting drunk. Im all for bringing back the original Celtic meaning but the day of the dead seems more accessible.
@BearDaniels, same can be said about just about any popular holiday. Sure, some people still hold the beliefs behind holidays such as Easter and Christmas, but a lot of people I know participate in only the more material side of them. Also, by that logic we should remove Thanksgiving as well, and I know several people who will physically fight someone over that one.
@Dillusionist, but the general public is at least aware of the original meaning of those holidays even if they themselves do not subscribed to those aspects. People are not even aware of the meaning of Halloween anymore. I’m just suggesting ascribing a more contemporary meaning to the holiday. People are free to celebrate it however they like I just feel like it would benefit the holiday for the general public to know that meaning.
@BearDaniels, Why should we add more meaning to a legitimate holiday that is already celebrated by the majority of America and a lot of other countries around the world...? Also why does it matter if people remember what it originally stood for if they are just going to celebrate it in the contemporary way anyhow? It’s already a well established holiday. It just doesn’t seem like you have any real reasons to back up your suggestion, if I’m wrong please elaborate, I’d be curious to hear your reasoning.
@Blasphemy is Fun, his reasoning seems to be anti-corporatism. At least, that’s what I interpreted.
@Blasphemy is Fun, because of the reason I said in my first post, it’s not a real holiday. It’s an excuse for people to get drunk, wear costumes and eat candy. Which is great by the way and a lot of fun but does not make for a legitimate holiday. Yes it’s well established but I want to make it more legitimate. I think you all are taking this as me attacking Halloween, it’s not, I love Halloween I just think we can improve it. Have our cake and eat it too.
@BearDaniels, I don’t know what you mean by a “real holiday.” What should we go for next, Saint Patrick’s Day? No one gets a break from work or school off or anything, it’s not like it’s a religious pause. It’s a cultural celebration. That kind of thing has existed for millennia. Halloween is not the first of its kind.
@Baileyjrob, I think I’ve been very clear on what’s a clear holiday if you’d bother to read my posts. A real holiday is a holiday which the general public understands the reason for celebrating. Saint Patrick’s day is celebrating saint patrick driving snakes out of Ireland and generally celebrating Irish culture. Most people don’t know why Halloween is celebrated, it’s just an excuse to have fun. If you incorporated the day of the dead people would understand the reason for celebrating.
@BearDaniels, first off, I have read all of your posts. No need to be condescending.
Second, that’s kind of ridiculous. Meaning evolves and changes all the time. Christmas was a pagan holiday, and over time it has become associated with the birth of Christ. Are you telling me that Christmas isn’t a real holiday because no one knows the proper pagan traditions and worship?
I can understand being frustrated with not actually following through with the meaning of a holiday when everyone is just blatantly ignoring it (like how people claim Christmas is about Christ but it’s really just an excuse to eat a ton and get gifts), but the fact is that, however it started, Halloween just isn’t ABOUT that anymore. It IS just an excuse to have fun... and what’s wrong with that?
Days of arbitrary celebration have existed since the BC era, and Halloween is no different. What’s wrong with having a time when everyone just gets to let loose and have fun?
@Baileyjrob, as I said before there is nothing wrong with just having fun for no reason. I always celebrate Halloween, I really love it. But I think it could be improved and I would like it to adopt some greater meaning.
Halloween: The only day it's remotely acceptable to be a Furry.
@FurriesRuinEvrything, you're a living contradiction
I prefer Christmas
A sexy penguin
This is my girlfriend in a nutshell lol. One of her nicknames is penguin.
The person that wrote "Don't have t visit family" doesn't have kids. Every year I have to take me kids to there Aunt's, Uncle's and Grandparents to trick or treat.
Day of the Dead is better, it's 3 days long for remembering loved ones, along with celebrating their lives.
Since when is it not acceptable to dress as a penguin on other days?
Yeah I'm old enough to where I'm the one handing out candy, not receiving it. On the plus side it's an excuse to have a party and drink a lot
@Not him again, you gotta go with the one for you one for me method of passing out candy
@BigJohnson86, lol. I'm one of the few people in my neighborhood who doesn't have kids, and almost all of them do this "trunk or treat" thing now, which is the laziest way of trick or treating ever for parents, so for the ones that do still go door to door, I try to be pretty generous
@Not him again, same. This year I solved it by having a party at my house. I built a quidditch pong table and it’s Harry Potter themed. There’s even a goldschlager snitch.
Im not allowed to go out for halloween cause im 17 yea i know
I actually wore a penguin costume 2 years in a row
