I think it's hilarious how Brie Larson is trying to pretend that her movie making a billion dollars is somehow a huge step forward for women. Right, I'm sure it had NOTHING to do with the facts, like: A) it's the 20th movie in a hugely successful cinematic universe, where even the bad ones do good. B) it was released in early March with virtually NO competition, and C) they conned people into believing it had connections or would at least drop hints regarding Endgame. Seriously, you could have released a movie that was just the cast and crew, sitting around, doing a table read, and it would have made $500 million.
Also, "huge step forward for women"? So we're going to just pretend Wonder Woman, 6 Resident Evil movies, 4 of the 5 Underworlds, Mad Max Fury Road, Terminator 2, and the first 4 Alien movies NEVER existed? Strong female lead movies make bank all the time; stop acting like this one is exclusively on you, Brie.
@Suicide Squad Sucks, my hands hurt from clapping
@Suicide Squad Sucks, .....
What happened in your life to make you that upset at a person whom you never met?
@JacieTwisted, nothing, really. I'm just tired of Brie Larson and her ilk acting like this movie made money because of them, when it actually made it in spite of them.
@Suicide Squad Sucks, I grew up on the aliens movies. Aliens is still in my top 5
@rezd, ah, I see you're a gentleman of culture as well!
Honestly, Shazam was the better movie. I don't know if Marvel is just losing its charm, but I feel like the second generation after infinity war they will most definitely not feel so good in terms of movie ticket sales...
@A Confused Banana , you don’t know if doctor strange 2, guardians 3, black panther 2, black widow, a possible replacement for captain America and iron man, Spider-Man 2 and 3, captain marvel 2, celestial movie, a possible return of the majority of villains already defeated in the MCU, scarlet witch and Loki stand-alone tv shows on the Disney streaming service, and the acquisition of Deadpool, X-men, and fantastic four will sell well?
Here I was under the impression that Disney was about to make another 500 bazillion dollars over the next 3-4 years. But you might be right. All those movies will probably suck and marvel will feel the burn of casting Brie Larson
@VibratingButtChomper, franchise fatigue, we've had the good first generation, will people care as much for the lackluster follow up? Probably not, for the same reason sequels rarely out-perform the original
@A Confused Banana , its just gonna be this movie. A few ideologues got in and put their politics before things like plot, dialogue, comedy etc. It probably wont happen again except for black panther 2. If they do ill stop watching just like with star wars.
@VibratingButtChomper, ohhh chats turning dc vs marvel. Eats popcorn
@VibratingButtChomper, I think you mean the eternals movie. To my knowledge there's no celestial movie planned. Although that would be dope. I actually agree with your sentiment. People out here saying "Marvel's thrown it's best material at us" aren't comic fans. There's decades of material and the potential for new stories is limitless. You can't get fatigued on a franchise that has infinite story potential.
@A Confused Banana , captain marvel was the first boring movie they've come out with in a long time I think this one is just an outlier.
@A Confused Banana , I gotta agree. Marvel has had an amazing run, but DC has good material, An i don’t know if anyone here has watched ‘gotham’ but man it’s amazing and just makes me realise that whilst marvel has amazing superhero’s, DC owns it with villains.
Saying that I’m not trying to diss marvel, I just think DC has a lot more to offer than we expect. Marvel has thrown its best at us.
@Dan Dan the fireman , just watched shazam last night and really enjoyed it. I do agree with everything said, and I personally think shazam is a better film than captain marvel although I still did enjoy it, just not as much as its last handful of films. Don't have many issues with shazam just a few nitpicks here and there (like the villian has to stop shazam before he learns his powers, yet he can use his own immediately?) but I can't say the same for captain marvel, it could have been better, that storyline could have been written better and there wasn't alot of action once she gets her full powers (yes I know it's an origin story but still)
@Dan Dan the fireman , Heads up, your post didn't reply to him. On to the main point. It seems like DC has had really good tv and mostly mediocre movies, while Marvel was the other way around. But if they keep up doing movies like Shazam, they're going to have both and possibly topple Marvel from movies while denying them in the tv department. But that's just my completely uninformed, barely awake enough to have a coherent thought theory.
@Gamasennin, I don’t even know how I did that ahah.
But yeah my argument still stands. The only marvel villains i have liked are venom, carnage, Loki (he’s kinda debatable good/bad) the villains of DC are far more complex than some person equally powerful to the hero’s, but bad. That is of course just my opinion though.
@Dan Dan the fireman , the MCU was built with garbage properties that no one wanted to buy like Iron Man and the orginal Avengers. Now that they acquired Fox's rights they no longer have to scrape the bottom of the barrel for characters and do storylines just like in the comics. Infinity War is tame compared to avengers and xmen crossovers.
@Dan Dan the fireman , I’m hoping DC turns it around in their upcoming films. Aquaman was alright, if you take it moment by moment, but there was a lot of problems with it, still. I’m looking forward to Shazam, as it’s the first DC film that’s looked good to me in years. Ultimately, a lot of the DC properties they’ve been cranking out have been campy to the point of cringy, and offered very little in terms of substance, choosing instead to go for spectacle. You’re right about Gotham, though. That show has been an absolute thrill ride, and I’m not ready for it to end.
@Dan Dan the fireman , Now this I’ve gotta disagree with. Literally all the DCU villains have been shallow husks. The only one that had remotely any complexity to them was Aries, and that’s mainly because they pulled a switcharoo. Pretty much every villain since the beginning of the MCU was so much more than just an angry dude or all powerful being. Not to mention, there was more to the conflict of every story than just tracking down and fighting the bad guys. Especially lately, a lot of the villains have actually evoked some measure of empathy from the audience. Their measures are extreme, but you still kinda feel where they’re coming from. DC doesn’t measure up at all.
@Berntley, must be a personal thing ay, Cos marvel villlains just seem like an angry inner child in an adult with super powers to me, whereas the DC villains are made villains due to being wronged An driven to snap. It’s good people breaking, marvel villains are just glorified jocks imo.
@Dan Dan the fireman , Are you talking about movies specifically? Because that’s what I’m getting at. I’m not talking source material, I’m talking about how the studios are taking that source material and putting it to screen. Particularly in the present. I mean, I still disagree with you, but I need to know if you’re on topic.
@Dan Dan the fireman , but Marvel has one of the best, most well-written and evil villains of all time: Captain Marvel
DC Captain Marvel is best captain marvel
Shazam is an awesome movie. For me, it had more funny moments than Thor: Ragnarok and the Guardians movies. I also saw Capt Marvel, and it was okay. Shazam: A+. Capt Marvel: B or B+ at best. If you were only gonna see one, and you wanted to see something great, Shazam. That’s just my opinion.
I think marvel is hurting because they have movie stars that decided they're experts in running a country and can't keep their mouth shut about it. I mean, Brie Larson is cute but I wouldn't date her for a million dollars, she clearly hates men.
Oh yeah not movies I’m mainly talking about the lore in general, Cos DC has done F@ck all with movies tbh
