i actually think the plot elements have been very good, just too mashed together. given 4 or 5 more episodes to flush out, i think this plot would have been great
@Hoban Washburne, My thoughts exactly. I'm enjoying all the payoffs but I wish there were more dialogue to build them up.
@Hoban Washburne, I think people are hopping on the hate bandwagon too much and looking for reasons to be upset. Has this been the best season of the show? No. Is it still enjoyable? Absolutely. We’ve been hyping it up for years to be this perfect, beautiful creation and that is a very difficult expectation to live up to
@icantfindmyfamily, i agree completely. i like the choice to kill the night king early. the way people expected this to play out was one epic humanity v dead battle, instead it seems we’re gonna get three epic battles and they did a great job making it not so good v evil black and white with humanity v dead. but again, it could have definitely used more fleshing out. daenerys’ decline should have happened steadily over the course of 2 or 3 episodes instead of “im jealous and mad this episode, and next episode im full on ready to butcher children” as one example. the choice is fantastic, it just needed more time
@Hoban Washburne, HBO literally offered them 10 episodes, expenses and everything, for the final season and Dumb and Dumber said they could do it in 6.
It actually had been leading up to what happened if you paid attention.
SPOILERS FOR GOT
Dany lost two dragons and her best friend and best advisor. The love of her life didn't love her back anymore and was a threat to her throne. Plus she was a product of a family line of incestuous madmen. It all really adds up if you pay attention
@Patamon, yes, but not all within that short of time span. It was very much rushed and not fleshed out at all. It was here are my losses and now I'm mad.
There were very slight hints throughout the seasons, but then then just bumrushed it into 6 episodes this season.
@Patamon, I know. Also it's not the first time she set fire to stuff after she felt she had been wronged. She always had a bit of a God complex.
@fettman1138, "Slight hints"
She's been teetering on the edge of crazy since Kahl drogo died.
Everything that happened made sense if you actually spent the time to show the evolution or regression of the character themselves. Given better direction for the short time, the actors could've shown these changes. With who they have for directors, 6 episodes was not enough.
Why not? Kathleen Kennedy ruined a whole trilogy.
I don’t think they purposefully messed up the season for shock value, it seems like they just didnt know how to end it
@K1l, they shot themselves in the foot having such a short season as well
@Pvt BB Ghanoush, they got offered 10 episodes and said "fvck you"
What plot was thrown away for shock value?
@Weird Porn Stash, game of thrones final season.
@Bobaganusche88, I meant what plot point specifically in the show.
@Weird Porn Stash, oh, well spoilers then. Denarys’ story arc throughout the entire show is that she did not take after the mad king (her father) and that she would rule justly. Then, last week (the spoiler part) she decides to burn all of King’s Landing after the city had surrendered and killed tens of thousands of innocent people with dragon fire.
@Bobaganusche88, Her story arc is that she didn't want to be like him, but when push came to shove, she always did.
@Weird Porn Stash, right, but there was no push or shove this time. She had already won. Those people had nothing to do with killing the dragon or the other lady, and did not deserve to die.
Sixty nine upvotes, well dang, guess I can't give it one more.
They painted themselves into a corner by cutting seemingly minor characters a few seasons ago that would become central to the ending. GRRM quit writing and distanced himself from the show season five. When they cut Lady Stoneheart and Young Griff.
Just as George Lucas intended...
