I know that this is a joke and all but those workers work harder than most of us probably do and it may take them a while but it is a job that most people don't want to do. So let me be the first to thank all the construction workers who risk their lives to make the roads/buildings we take for granted.
P.S. they are probably on their break/lunch and are just goofing off.
@owanobi, *does best Maui impression* you’re welcome
@owanobi, I get you mean generally, but like anywhere in the world, there's lazy bastards who squeeze the job longer, especially on hourly pay, I probably would a bit too
@owanobi, ... coming from a man who's got over a decade hard labor doing my job.. trust me, this is most days on a construction site when the supervisor isn't in direct line of sight.
@owanobi, you want it done fast or you want it done right? Theres a road in my city that i swear had construction on it the better half of my schooling and they finally finished it the year after i graduated and let me tell you that road is the most luxurious piece of a§(phalt) you will ever drive on
@owanobi, excuse you I'd love to be a professional sign holder
I learned from a buddy of mine that works construction that a big reason public work (fixing roads and such) takes so long is when a company gets a contract for the work they give the government an estimate of how long it'll take to fix. They then get paid for that amount of time and nothing if it takes longer. However, if they finish faster then expected they get paid less then the contract states. So the bosses of construction will often tell them to slow down the work until they know it'll last them to the deadline
@theshadosnipe, that's such a stupid way of doing it... It should just be: you get this amount of money, get it done. When it's done, you get the other amount of money. That way they will want to get the job done faster to get paid. However there is quality to consider. Don't want a rushed job.
@Xenn, yea, I'm not really sure on the finer points of it but I can see both sides. Personally I think it should be "Heres a $20k check. Fix our road as fast as you can" and if they do a crappy job just dont consider that company for the next project
@theshadosnipe, well that’s dumb
I work construction it is hard work and most guys do work really hard but everyone fools around sometimes if u don’t know how to have fun what’s the point
I'm on site tomorrow and gonna show this around and see who can do it. Hopefully kill off a few of the assholes
The road service company I work at has been bs lately, on the side of "well that's against labor laws". My most recent shift I worked was 15hrs (avg 12-14hrs recently) which I worked 10hrs straight before getting a 30min break (a fellow employees noticed I never got a brake and covered me, Forman did nothing). I'm also a driver for them and drive a f450 with a custom bed that is over 5 tons that makes me drive under commercial vehicle laws. Those laws make it illegal for me to drive with a shift that long. I'm also there traffic head and although I make legal setups for us to work in they don't follow instruction to run our setups legally. God, I need to quit! They are now gonna make us work monday-saturday instead of monday-friday. Well, got to go sleep to wake up at 3am FML
