Marvel: We made spider man popular again.
Sony: You made Spiderman popular again
Marvel *walks away*
Sony *looks at spiderman*
Sony: I made spiderman popular again.
@The nOly One, *glances at spiderverse* yep only Disney
@sticky 2, *glances at Civil War and Homecoming which both predate Spider verse and directly impacted its success* yup, definitely disney
@The nOly One, *glances at the two Spider-Man franchises that predate homecoming which was actually made by Sony* yep only Disney
@sticky 2, I said “again” for a reason, Amazing spiderman 2 was a failure by all accounts and tanked the popularity of spiderman significantly
@The nOly One, still made a profit in the box office and the general public has a rather positive view of those films so 🤷🏼♀️
Disney has some hardcore corporate greed they need to chill
@sticky 2, I’m not denying they have corporate greed, but Sony wouldn’t offer Disney anything better than 5% of the profit on the films Marvel were producing, marketing, and pushing as a part of their MCU. The Amazing Spiderman films have mostly mixed reactions from fans and the second film made the least money domestically of every Spiderman film to date. I’m not saying Sony should give Disney Spiderman, but disney has made them tons of money so they can make a more profitable deal for them
@The nOly One, Sony made a 20% offer and Disney refused it. Disney also has 100% of the merch sales. Merch sales tend to make 4-5x more money than the movies do so Disney Is making more money than Sony.
Is anyone else pissed off at stan Lee's daughter for her rants? She is screaming about how these companies are disrespecting her fathers legacy, but wasnt his whole family really toxic and trying to grab his money while he was still alive? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
edie: read into it. his daughter and him were good. someone was trying to separate him from family and take advantage of Stan. it was all cleared up before his passing.
@ThePandaPool , I heard they were really terrible to him, especially in his last days and that makes me sick
@ThePandaPool , you have heard correctly
@ThePandaPool yep, and they used to wheel him into to conventions and collect his paycheck. Stan Lee Deserved better.
@InsaneWorm, I was really hoping you guys were gonna tell me I'm wrong...
@ThePandaPool , I actually heard those were all rumors, after multiple people, including Kevin Smith, offered to let Stan stay with them Stan stated he was furious that these rumors were spread because his family was nothing but good to him
@ThePandaPool , Stan Lee released a video saying that wasn’t true. There was some manager or caretaker that took advantage of him, but I think the stuff about his family is mostly rumors. I’ll try to find the video.
@Gatsby, I read interviews with him. That's what it looks like, and I'm relieved.
Is no one talking about that it is Disney’s fault this all went down? Sony said no to the new agreements because they were ridiculous. Disney (not Marvel) asked for 50% of movie revenue, while it was 5%. Disney also already has all of the merchandise sales. So you see why Sony said no?
Also, Homecoming and Far From Home was produced by Sony, but in direct partnership with Marvel. So don’t go saying Sony movies suck.
@Ribird, Sony also made Into the Spiderverse which is a critically acclaimed movie. Sony is in the right here especially since Disney earns all merch sales
@Ribird, to go with that 50%revenue stake Disney also offered to finance future Spider-Man films at 50% of the total cost, that part tends to get left out. I personally don’t think either are at fault business is business, and I’m also 90% sure they work out some sort of deal soon enough Spider-Man has become way to important to the mcu
@foenix, I heard about that part, but I couldn’t find others talking about that! Thanks for that info!
@Ribird, yeah dude. I’m glad someone said it before me. People are so quick to bash Sony but they don’t see Disney trying to over reach.
People defending Disney be like: 🤡
Okay so like, I understand that some people just want Spidey in the MCU, which is fine, and I understand that some people think Sony is in the right in terms of business, which is fine, but what's ridiculous is people portraying either organization as the moral victor. They're both soulless corporations who bind characters in dumb copyright laws. I guarantee that if the roles were switched, no one would be acting any differently.
@SimonPetrikov, spider-man 3 villain: corporate greed
You do realize that the first rule of negotiation is being able to walk away from the deal at any moment. If they don’t threaten to take an asset away then there’s really no leverage to haggle with in the first place
Its just a rumor but I heard they may have come to an agreement to let Spidey stay with 4 more solo films
As of 2018 Sony is worth 37.45 Billion. A hostile take over is possible.
