So why did they skip 9
@Dexios S Divine, my understanding is because Windows 98 exists and it would have been annoying for some search algorithms
@Dexios S Divine, because 7 8 9
@Dexios S Divine, because you touch yourself at night.
@Dexios S Divine, because some systems from either win 95 or 98 are just known as "windows9" so it would screw some stuff up
@Dexios S Divine, Because in either China or Japan (don’t remember which) the number 9 is seen as unlucky, kind of like 13
@Langenator, i hate doing anything specifically for china, just dumb to me how much pandering there is
@Dexios S Divine, It’s not really pandering, it’s more of a business decision as that’s a huge portion of their consumer base, and it’s likely that significantly less people would buy it if they didn’t just add 1 to the name. It’s the same reason there wasn’t an iPhone 9
@Langenator, i know its about money, point still stands though, pandering specifically to china is every where
@Dexios S Divine, This type of thing is common for all sorts of things, like how there’s never a 13th row on an airplane, or how some hospitals skip the 4th floor because it’s a homophone for “death” in Japanese. Its not just to China.
@Langenator, but thats mainly in asian areas really or asian specific things, not in the us, not anything for japan or what have you, from what I’ve seen at least
@Dexios S Divine, I suppose that’s fair enough
@Dexios S Divine, ok.
@Dexios S Divine, because Microsoft unofficially considers Windows 8.1 as the 9th version of Windows. It was a substantial upgrade over Windows 8, but not a new Full operating system.
Every time I see this meme I think of the old Robin Williams bit where he’s talking about cops in England not having guns. “Stop! Or I’ll say stop again!”
That looks like Tim Pool
