Except that shjt took some real effort
@TheRatMan, Yet the pay was only exposure
@TheRatMan, when was it cool ? I don’t remember it being cool
I always kinda thought it was like a right of passage or proof of skill.
Instead of posing for a picture for a licence, you drew fruit to show you were talented enough to start doing commisons.
@Sambob, it is a right of passage but for different reasons. Most artist were realist at the time and in order to practice they painted "still life". Consider they didnt have photographs so the only way to paint fruit is to go get fruit and paint the piece faster than the fruit decays. Thus proving you can be a competent, speedy, efficienct artist.
I would prob paint fruit if no tv and AC. Oh yeah and the cough medicine was heroin
because of smartphones viewing photographs as an artform is extremely specific now. so yes seeing oil painting as the medium for the piece instead of someones .6 megapixel shot of some shjte looking lasagna has skewed the perspective of art itself
It's great that they did paint food. It's a good glimpse into what food used to look like.
Before it was cool, though.
