In this scene of the movie the image flashes to Bruce Wayne standing over his parents before cutting back to Arthur, and in my nerd opinion this is a reference to the end of the Killing Joke story line where Joker says the whole situation reminds him of a joke and he proceeds to tell it to Batman who listens and laughs with him. So in the film Arthur says to the counselor in the hospital that she wouldn’t get it and it’s only when he meets Batman that he feels he’s found someone who’s as broken as him to understand it, hence the cut to Bruce.
@Gladiator, for those of you that don’t know it the joke is as follows:
“See, there were these two guys in a lunatic asylum... and one night, one night they decide they don’t like living in an asylum anymore. They decide they’re going to escape! So, like, they get up onto the roof, and there, just across this narrow gap, they see the rooftops of the town, stretching away in the moonlight... stretching away to freedom. Now, the first guy, he jumps across no problem. But his friend, his friend daredn’t make the leap. Y’see... y’see, he’s afraid of falling. So then, the first guy has an idea. He says, ‘hey! I have my flashlight with me! I’ll shine it across the gap between the buildings. You can walk along the beam and join me!’ B-but the second guy just shakes his head. He suh-says... he says, ‘wh-what do you think I am? Crazy? You’d turn it off when I was halfway across!’”
@Gladiator, I’ve always wondered what the joke was. Thank you.
Batman laughing is far creepier than The Joker.
@Gladiator, who's Arthur?
@Codeine, its jokers birth name
@BRAZZERS, I thought he was called Jack
@Codeine, atleast for the newest joker film his name was Arthur
@BRAZZERS, but he's the clown prince of crime not the clown king
@Gladiator, I honestly thought the "joke" was him laughing about Batman's parents being killed! I was wayyy off!
@nate930, that’s just my take on it, I could be far off to.
Can someone who’s not old, explain Billie Eilish? Like I see that shes decently talented so I get why she’s got fans but why is she becoming this popular?
@BigJohnson86, she’s popular because she’s been advertised heavily through social media like twitter and snapchat. they also boast about her being young which is supposed to impress people but i personally think she’s boring and makes lame music
@Glossary , I said not old. Old people see this. But we don’t get it
@BigJohnson86, Oh ffs. I love this community but being old doesn’t mean you can just write off a young person’s talent. Billie is very talented and has pretty much flipped pop music on its head by inverting the definition of what pop is with her creepy and alluring tone. Its melodic and unsettling. I could go on and on, I mean, listen to “Ocean Eyes” then “Bad Guy” then “Bury a Friend” then “Ilomilo” and try to understand these all came from a teenage girl who has Tourettes syndrome and her older brother. I went to one of her concerts with my girlfriend last summer and she was performing with a sprained ankle with a huge amount of energy. She genuinely cares about her fans and music as a passion. She doesn’t care for the success/fame/fortune. You can look up a vid of her passing waters out to fans halfway through a concert cause it got too hot outside and one of them almost passed out from heat stroke. She’s just an all around good person and skilled musician and THAT is impressive.
@BigJohnson86, Disclaimer, I was not condemning you specifically, I appreciate you asking nicely to explain. I’m just getting sick of the comments like @Glossary who just bandwagon on the hate of a 17 year old artist and write off her entire skill and character by implying she’s only as good as she is cause of $$$ and her young age. You can love/hate her music, but you cannot deny her passion for and skill in music.
@airguitarpro, Thanks. Still hate it but it's good to know that she's not the "Bad Guy".
@BigJohnson86, I’m 21 and I personally like Billy Eilish somewhat. It’s not because she’s exceptionally talented or her music is the best. For me it’s because I was so glad that a somewhat different music style was becoming popular. A really refreshing break from Selena Gomez/Ariana Grande pop. Does this help?
Dad: “don’t worry baby, trickle down economics, gutting welfare safety nets, and s***ing on my Union will at least solve our money troubles!”
@liberachi , I know this is like BARELY connected to the picture, but I was getting big “we live in a society” vibes and I just wanted to get that in.
@liberachi , ah, the refreshing taste of a regular liberachi comment.
You goddam kids *uncle Jimbo voice*
There was a lot of smoking in this movie now that I think about it
