"And then I killed myself and blamed everyone else for it"
@Mantis Tobaggan, The 13 things I know about 13 Reasons Why:
1) Everyone is gay
2) There's an Asian guy
3) That's it
@SimonPetrikov, the only legit reason she had was that some guy raped her, everything else was normal high school stuff
@Mantis Tobaggan, That sends a confusing and possibly unhealthy message
@SimonPetrikov, I don’t think anyone was gay actually? And yeah the huge backlash to the show was how it made suicide look like a viable option
@SimonPetrikov, yup. When asked by a councilor about the rape (she told him) she refused to give a name because he wouldn't guarantee her with 100 percent certainty that he would go to jail. She said something about suicide and when he was like "the fvck?" She was like "no I don't mean literally don't worry!" And then blamed him on a tape. Damn girl he tried and you wouldn't let home help!
@The nOly One, there are a couple gays but not that many
@The nOly One, What? That's impossible, some a$$hole on YouTube joked that everyone is gay in that show. How could it not be true?
@Mantis Tobaggan, the point was he didn't try enough. Instead of listening to her, he just was happy she got out of his office.
It’s truly tragic what the show did to people’s perception of 13 Reasons Why. I read the book in high school and it was a really nuanced take on suicide that didn’t glorify it or put any of the blame on anyone but Hannah (and kinda Bryce) but showed how she was thinking up to the time she decided to take her own life. I won’t go into how the show screwed it up, but I highly encourage people to read the book as it helped me through a difficult time and guided me through a very complex topic
