This is gonna be controversial, but I think The Last Jedi is one of the most interesting episodes, it's the only one that's actually trying to say something. There's quite a few things I don't like, like how Finn was handled, among other things. What it does right though, it does really well. Lukes arc here was one of the best in the series. As a standalone piece, I think it's the best, however, it does not fit within the saga at all, tonally or structurally.

@Audiodacity, No I think most people would agree with you. The huge issue people have is that it doesn't agree with the canon/backgrounds of the characters previously known. The issues that still persist though include comedic relief scenes that serve no greater purpose, but it's a kid movie so I guess it gets away with it. 2nd issue is Rose and Finn's story is pretty useless and relies entirely on chance. Rose also has the flaw she's not a consistent character since she doesn't hold her morals the entire time by endangering the resistance. It can be alikened to giving a little brother something you built out of Lego and telling him to add onto it and make it better, but he completely changes it into something else, ultimately destroying what was made beforehand. Yes, what's newly made is alright, but at the cost of what you worked so hard to previously make.
I feel like the star wars episodes are on a weird normal curve. Like episode 1 and 9 made for kids, 2 and 8 just bad with effects and poor handling of characters, 3 and 7 really interesting, the OT being the peak.
