I’ve always wanted to do LARP. But I feel like it’s a community of people that don’t appreciate newbies. 😞
@Leslie Knope 2020, first of all, hey you're back. Second of all, I dont think you can gatekeep larping. It has such a small group playing it and would otherwise die out.
@Leslie Knope 2020, that’s really hard, I had a buddy who loved it and tried to get me into it, I didn’t really wanna go, I went as a spectator and it’s just too much, it’s either cringe and terrible, or so overly obsessive that it makes go wow..... I shouldn’t be here , there is no in between
@Leslie Knope 2020, Work friend of mine LARPs. They seem chilled, as long as you’re in to it I’m sure they welcome you.
@Leslie Knope 2020, I tried it at PAX unplugged. They're definitely super open to new people. At least the group there was. But it's definitely a very specific taste.
@Leslie Knope 2020, you need to ask around and see if you have a One World by Night (OWBN) game. It’s based on the Old World of Darkness games by White Wolf publishing (Vampire: the Masquerade, Mage: the Ascension, Werewolf: the I-Can’t-Remember). Fun times and let’s you get really macabre if you want. If you go V:tM (Vampire), I suggest starting with a Camarilla game as Anarch and Sabbat get much darker, respectively. I started with Sabbat and somehow managed to keep the same character alive for over 2 years... Don’t as me how...
@Leslie Knope 2020, not at all! I’m sure there are indeed certain Larps and people that do that, but there are so many that welcome newbies and try to get you interested in Larping in general. Yeah, I’m sure some are cringy, and some might not be for you, but it’s a really fun experience to play as someone you’re not and just have fun. You just have to find the right fit for you: if you like Harry Potter, do a wizard larp! If you like murder mysteries, do a larp on solving crimes! There are fantasy larps, Larps where you actually get to fight people, with or without weapons, and lemme tell you, it is so fun and freeing to do it. It’s never too late to start, or to try, and even if you do it once and hate it, well at least you tried, right? It’s all a game anyway—it’s supposed to be fun. :)
DnD are just podcasts for my imagination.
Larping is pretending the things in my imagination are real and trying to fight them.
From what I've seen, LARP usually uses very different systems and rules than D&D. I mean obviously there are going to be some differences, but they're actually more different than you might think.
I’m game to LARP
Personally I liked it. It's good excercise, and let's me practice some of my old fencing skills.
What is LARP?
@RollingInD1ck, Live Action Role Play. Essentially, it's going outside and acting out your DnD campaign with friends. A bit cringe, since it sometimes looks like a bunch of grown-adults playing pretend in costumes and shouting nonsense.
@Proactive Citizenry , oh yeah that’s a no thank you from me. I enjoy DnD but I would much rather sit and imagine my 8ft barbarian Goliath rip a goblin in half than see myself screaming a battle cry while my belly fat jiggles in the sunlight
@Proactive Citizenry , my gosh that is cringe
