They're also excessively expensive for something that does dāmn near nothing but look pretty
@BRAZZERS, they aren't even as rare as they are made out to be. With the exception of the blue diamond, most diamonds are abundant, but kept under close control due to the DeBeers group, they release limited supplies to keep prices high.
They also created the slogan "A diamond is forever" and "a diamond should be 2 months salary" simply to generate more value and income for their diamonds. So yea, that's the other reason why.
@BRAZZERS, yeah it’s all artificial pricing
@BRAZZERS, most diamonds and, as a matter of fact, other precious stones and metals are used in manufacturing (I.e. diamond tipped drill bits)
@BRAZZERS, you guys do realize, diamonds are used in a lot of industrial processes? And its expensive cause its goddamn hard to cut it into shape... Dont just go claiming stuff you find on facebook and spread it like its your time to shine at a bukkake orgy.
you can create it artificially, but only with a sh1tton of energy and that makes natural even rarer
@meeeh, I would like to see any credible source that explains what the anlotmofnindudtorial process is. Because I don't see any search results for that word on any search engines. And if you're just making things up, that's honestly far worse than the people that spread things from Facebook.
@meeeh, First off my dude, its a proven fact that diamonds are expensive primarily because the De Beers Diamond corporation artificially inflats the prices of diamons and holds a monopoly on the diamond industry. They are called the diamond cartel for a reason. So you are straight up talking out of your ass. It is also why things like blood diamonds even exist. Diamonds are not that rare at all and the vast majority of them are used in industrial machines. Tons and tons of industrial grade diamonds are readily sold in bulk while the Beers Corporation holds onto practically all gem quality stones in vaults and dribble them out in tiny trickles to control the pricing artificially inflating the market.
However, thankfully, this process is backfiring as more and more people are either wising up to the bs or are outright not buying Diamonds because they are stupid useless trinkets anyway and are virtually worthless outside of aesthetic and sentimental value! (TBC)
@meeeh, Diamond engagement rings only became relevant AFTER the De Beers Corporation made a very clever and highly successful ad campaign promoting the idea that ONLY diamond engagement rings showed true love. Which is a load of hogwash. It honestly sickens me that uneducated morons like you not only defend this crap but also continue to perpetuate the stupid concept in the first place. Do you have any idea what workers in diamond mines go through? All because people like you are absolutely ignorant of the facts? And you say Facebook is bad? You are so much worse.
At least gold and silver has international monetary value as well as industrial applications (circuitry, antimicrobial application, etc.).
Diamonds do nothing beyond looking nice. Also, raised settings on rings are easy to snag/hit objects and break, losing the diamond.
@BRAZZERS, dont shame me for my sh1tty smartphone keyboard. i corrected the word just so you can read it aswell. you're welcome
@Russian Hawkeye, can i see your source? This isnt sarcasm, but i prefer checking it myself
I'll stick with mutual funds, especially in this booming economy
@Sexy Homunculus, smart!!
@Sexy Homunculus, god damn, even the economy is a "boomer" now
Because they're just shiny rocks. They have no use or purpose except for the use of tools, and as I remember, rings aren't really tools
@The Landshark , Imagine being the first person to polish a rock and sell it as a scam and seeing how it has grown into millions of idiots are buying them.
@JoeJoestar, oh I'm not saying it wasn't genius while it lasted. I'm saying it's finally coming to an end for good reason
Should I start with the unethical trade, the inflated prices, or the fact that it's a completely superfluous purchase that rich people buy to prove that they're rich?
Over priced. Can be made. Not as cool as a metorite or Fossil rings.
My local £1 shops are shutting down.. don't think there's much of a market for diamonds around here right now
@TheMightyImp, Well that's because you're using Monopoly money
@satan of the north, Meghan thought our money was better than yours, lol
@TheMightyImp, well she’s an idiot and trailer trash so...
Fun fact. In the 1940s l diamonds were considered rocks. Nothing special until a company decided to put meaning and value to them. Through advertising and use of famous people, they became this symbol of value but these rocks are abundant. A jeweller said he had heaps at his safe and doesnt release them to keep the cost high.
Boomers - Why aren't millennials giving me even more money for these rocks? Don't they want to look pretty in their apartments that I jacked up their rent on despite them not getting raises? Pathetic!
Feminism. Feminism alone.
Diamonds aren't rare. They're worthless and engagement rings are scams.
