Anyone have any advice for making my first DND character?
@Possible Paradox, know what to expect from your campaign, try to make a character that you'll have fun with depending on what the party will be doing most of the time. Whether it's role play, puzzle solving or combat. After that try to think of something that will motivate your character for a while, a goal they can work towards while in the party or a flaw to overcome.
@Possible Paradox, ^^ that’s all good advice, though I will add:
if it’s a more roleplay heavy table and you’re concerned about making a character that you’ll feel comfortable roleplaying in, don’t be afraid to make your character’s personality based off of you. If you’ve never done any acting before, it can be scary trying to realistically step into this imaginary person’s shoes, so keeping it close to home is always a good place to start from.
My first ever character I took a handful of traits from my own personality that I felt would befit a young and brash yet classical knight (my sense of justice, my act first ask questions later approach to situations, my personal sense of honor, etc.) and I cranked them to 11. I ended up building the cornerstone character for a sort of fantasy Avengers that multiple teams of heroes are built around and after this campaign is finally finished (going three years strong), I will retire him knowing I made a legendary character.
That virus downloaded quickly!
