Always rescue. I couldn't even imagine not rescuing anymore. Theres a million cliches reasons and idioms about it, but the simple truth is right now there is a sweet dog that's curled into the corner of a kennel wanting nothing more than to leave that place. You can either get a puppy that'll inevitably find a home by the time its 2 months old, or you can save that shelter dog who may sleep in that corner for 6 more months
@I Am Captain Obvious, true but not true in a way. I volunteered at the SPCA for 4 years all through high school as a background and I have to say it's mostly older or damaged dogs that dont get adopted quickly or at least taken to a foster family also pitbulls. I understand why pitbulls dont get adopted because of the retarded pregitous but for me I just dont want a pitbull because they are intense dogs and also I have an allergy so a nice hypoallergenic chill dog is what i want typically. I couldnt find that at the pound even though i searched for around a year closest I got was a 3 year old black lab but it was adopted in 2 days. Dont judge people for finding the dog they want most of my family dogs have been pound pups but if you are looking for a dog with specific characteristics for whatever reason a pound isnt the easiest route.
@Cousteau, Rescuing or adopting from responsible breeders is the best way to go - it’s the puppy mill type of business that should be shamed and not supported
@I Am Captain Obvious, also I feel like rescued pets lot more love and appreciation for you
@I Am Captain Obvious, my wife found an abandoned kitten under our storage building. We named her Marshmallow Puddin. She adopted us just as much as we adopted her. The best part is that our dog (also a rescue) get along very well!
@Cousteau, There are breed specific rescues all around the country. You can most definitely find a pure breed dog from a rescue, maybe not in a local county shelter, but foster based rescues or sanctuaries even :)
dog is dog. Doesn’t matter where you get it
@I Am Captain Obvious, so I used to be a SM at Petco, and we had this adoption group that would come every weekend. My girlfriend at the time decided to foster this aussie that was about 6 years old and deaf. She had spent basically her whole life in a shelter, so when my gf brought her home, she was an absolute handful for the first month. Obviously we ended up adopting her, then her and I broke up and I moved out. About 2 weeks later she called me demanding that I come get the dog bc she was tearing up the house without me there. Took her back with me and never had a single problem with her, and she's by far the best dog I've ever had. I still have the pic of her in the car on the way home and it's the happiest look ever
@HALSEYFRANG, true enough but I did say I was in high school and I didnt really have the money to be able to make it such a big deal. I got a good cheap dog that was the breed I wanted. FFS once its alive its gotta go somewhere why not straight to me instead of a brief stint in the pound or shelter.
