Why people do this though? I mean setting on fire the oil thing spewing from the ground. I always wonder about that.
@Alpha Warrior, so they can walk away like a badass.
@Alpha Warrior, I think it’s to burn off natural gas deposits in the oil
@Alpha Warrior, different reasons the main reason is because usually there is an excess of methane gas in the oil well that’s needs to burned off before they can begin to collect. Sometimes it’s an intentional act of sabotage or warfare to cripple a country’s GDP or oil reserves like Iraq did when they invaded Kuwait.
The more you know🌈
@Alpha Warrior, this was when they were regaining control of all the wells Iraq set on fire pulling out of Kuwait. First they would put the fire out and then they would cap the well. In this case, they had already put the fire out, but too much oil was pooling up on the ground, and it was approaching another well that was still on fire. If it were to reach that well, there would have been a massive, uncontrolled fire on the ground, where as just the well being on fie is semi controlled. So they relit it to prevent all the oil on the ground from lighting.
@jdeaux, you're thinking of flaring. That is a much less energetic event.
@NameyMcNameFace, Better to burn it than to let it spill all over the place.
That’s not a nice guy. That’s a “nice guy”. I would know
@N7 Trinity, same, gives us nice guys a bad name
@The Last Roman, ikr? Some of us are even too nice :/
