@theduuuude, logarithm is a function, you put one number in, do special math and get another out. In base 10 logarithm you have to put 10x the amount to get an increase of 1 in the output so if you put 5 units in to get an output of 1, you need to put 50 units in to get an output of 2 and 500 to get 3. This means that it is 8x10x10x10x10.... until you get 1100. the richter scale is logarithmic so that is why you barely feel say a 2.0 quake while a 7.0 can devastate, it is 100,000 times as strong, not 3.5 times.
Fyi the decibel scale is logarithmic, so 1100db is 8 with 109 zeros times more powerful than 1db
