The people running our governments have always taken advantage of disasters to impose on our freedom.
@DecoJake, control the animals environment, control the animal
@DecoJake, id let you take advantage of a disaster to impose on my freedom 😏
@robee, Don't threaten me with a good time.
@DecoJake, to be fair South Korea implemented this after the last pandemic they suffered, and have been very effective at handling the crisis because of this.
@DecoJake, “Never let a good tragedy go to waste.”
@DecoJake, like right now there is a bill going through Congress that would make end to end encryption on messaging apps illegal.
@DecoJake, "Emergency has long been the rallying cry of the tyrant." -Muh boy James Madison
When they say "make software" they actually mean " Continue to use the software we made a long time ago"
Yeah hard pass. I want edward snowden pardoned.
So for my dissertation I researched and wrote a paper on dynamic mapping.
The thing that bothered me was that the code that I designed had some really amazing practical implications. like for example during environmental disasters such as hurricans it would allow for the allocation of resources to be directed to the optimal places... however I thought about going further and doing a masters and a phd on it but it genuinelly bothered me how the more I researched the subject the more I became aware that similar software often got swallowed up by the military or organisations like google, and made into something much more sinister.
tldr: i made software that makes constantly updating maps tracking the flow & movement of people intended for humanitarian purposes but went no further with it over fear of it being exploited for other uses
