I honestly had to look this up, cause I recently learned a new word. Rookery. Which is in short, a place where you breed birds. My original thought was it was named a Rook because of this. Well, no, and, maybe. The piece the rook is supposed to represent is a chariot. It was then made into an elephant, but as it moved west it became a castle. The wiki couldn't tell me why, so give you all my head cannon. Spread it around, I'd like it to be true. :)
Fun fact castle in chess is a foundation that gives the king an absolute defense. If you attack first you are at an overwhelming disadvantage the rest of the match.
Looks more like a fortress, and a later era one. More for status and showing off than being defensible
