'Ave some shield ye cheeky coont
@Sexy Homunculus, I read that in Sir Bron of the Blackwaters voice, as intended by god
@Sexy Homunculus, forearm shiver - 1, sword-0
That’s why you lead with your sword and have your shield covering your torso. Source, I train in HEMA (swordfighting)
@generic zombie, from what I know of viking swordsmanship they did not use their swords to block blows if possible and relied heavily on shields to defend and stun. Swords were the death blow but shields were the fight.
to be real though a charge like that was retarded. I used to fence and am by no means a pro but that dude had more openings than a whore on sunday.
@generic zombie, can you recommend any YouTube channels to learn more hema the only good one I have found is bjorn ruther?
@Upset Napkin, schola gladiatora: weapons knowledge
Shadiversity: nerdy questions you’ve always wanted answered
@Upset Napkin, a good book for nordic sword techniques and usage that has grounds in history as well as a fun fictional story is the strongbow saga. The training sequence in the first book is really researched for the way they fought and the battles and raids are similar. It's not as overly dramatic as Vikings or other shows. Sorry, I have an obsession with stories and read/watch a lot.
@generic zombie, thank you!
@Runnin with scissors, thank you and dont worry I own the entire horus heresy book set I understand.
@Upset Napkin, that's really cool. I just thought I might introduce you to a fantastic and unknown series that got me into medieval and nordic culture although I definitely started because I have a family farm house in Denmark from the 1300s on the island of Omø. Went there when I was 6 and again at 12.
If you get the time read or listen to the strongbow saga. It's really well done and describes the culture using a fictional perspective that has actual grounds and references to raids and wars as well as detailing how they fought.
