Who responds to that question with their grade though?
@Have An Upvote, literally nobody. I've known Freshman from the ages of 13-16, thats a 4 year gap for a single year of HS.
@Have An Upvote, idiots. Something that is extremely common and normalized in usa.
@Have An Upvote, a lot of people actually never ask for the age of my siblings, just their grade. I don't even know how grades work, so I just tell them their age and they look weirded out that I avoid their question.
@freakazoid, I have never had anyone respond that way. If I asked their grade on the other hand then yeah they might say freshman but that narrows it down to high school and college. But high schooler I would expect to say 9th grade.
@Jaune Arc, a 16 year old freshman? Sounds like someone got held back a couple times
@Not him again, yeah, he wasn't the sharpest knife in the crayon box. But that's exactly why you can't use Freshman as a qualifier for age in America.
Even in America thats confusing because freshman could mean a 9th grader or 1st year of college.
