Its hilarious to me that people think im the problem and not them when they tailgate my ass in the fast lane trying to go 20 MPH over the speed limit. You are the asshole, not me.
@PottedPlant, are you “actively passing”? If so, then they’re the àsshole. If not, then it’s you.
@big freedom, I mean, I remember driver's training and reading all those booklets. Nowhere did it say anything about the left lane always being a passing lane. That being said, it is definitely stupid to drive the same speed as somebody directly next to you so that nobody can pass. Just like people who block the entire path at Wal-Mart and walk really fvcking slow.
@Empshok, I remember that it’s exactly what they said. Every highway in every state has signs “keep right except to pass” or “slower traffic keep right”
And people that do what you described above are the àssholes of the universe. They are literally the cause of traffic congestion and so many accidents.
@big freedom, I mean, I do see those signs in many places, but there are very long stretches of road where there's nothing. Honestly, I try to assume everybody else is going to do something stupid. I try to get out of the way when possible.
But tailgaters deserve caltrops.
@big freedom, the number 2 cause of accidents on the highway is speeding and the number 3 is drunk driving.
Highway speeds are set for a reason related to average human ability. There's a good amount of science behind it. The left lane is for passing but the max speed designated for safe passing is the speed limit. The right lane is for the speed limit or less.
Dont speed when you unless you are driving over 100miles in your trip otherwise the gains are minimal and you will stop for gas before you can appreciate them.
Wanna drive faster than the speed limit go to a race track. They're pretty cheap. Wrecking your car on them isnt but neither is an accident going over 65mph.
@Runnin with scissors, there is so much wrong with your comment it’s hard to know where to begin.
Speed limits are more to do with gas consumption than safety, especially on highways. The laws were passed decades ago. Cars are more efficient now and safer at higher speeds.
The science behind my statement is actually peer reviewed and current. Yours is junk and based on emotion and outdated ideas.
@big freedom, distracted driving is the number 1 cause of traffic accidents and speeding is number 2. I dont know where you got you info but here is a link to one of many sites reporting speeding in the top 3 causes while others combine impairment this one does not.
What do you think a yellow traffic sign means? It's a recommended speed based on the area you are driving white signs are the limit. Some of the reason is fuel efficiency but a lot of the speed limits today are based on driver ability and roads especially on well established or busy highways. A huge factor in the speed limit is stopping ability of cars which has improved but not that much overall when you consider the mix of cars on the road.
They tailgate even when driving in the right lane.
So move out of the fast lane like you are supposed to. Don't be Mr. Civilian speed enforcement. Just move over.
@Sr5turbo, Preach! 🙏
@funny pics veteran, sorry to be preachy but where I live it's such a problem the made it an offence to be passed on the right.
@Sr5turbo, I have a heavy foot and drive a 370z it drives me crazy when people get in the left lane and go the speed limit and I get boxed in with someone in the right lane doing the speed limit. I get it if you drive the speed limit honestly kudos, but at the same time there is almost always a lane for that
@funny pics veteran, I love the "im doing 1mph over the speed limit so im going to drive in the passing lane" people.
@Sr5turbo, there is nothing in this meme to suggest that this is a two lane highway. It could simply be a jackass in a BMW where passing is not allowed.
@Raki Zaki, Everytime I see this post no one seems to think of that. It's always the same "Move from fast lane" stuff
@Soggy Potato, yeah, I live on a lot of back roads that are one lane, and at a certain point in my daily trip there isn't much opportunity to pass
If you ride my ass I will go below the speed limit, fast lane or not. Be considerate of other people and their safety.
@PottedPlant, seriously. They are breaking the law. If I'm going 70mph in the fast lane in a 65mph zone dont tailgate or drive like an asshole. If you speed you might get there 2mins earlier but you're also burning more gas causing you to stop more often. Plus a lot of accidents occur from passing too aggressively at higher speeds that are unsafe given average reaction time and road conditions.
@Runnin with scissors, you shouldn’t be doing 70 in the passing lane of a 65, if you are then you deserve to be tailgated. I don’t mind if you want to drive like an old woman, but do it in the slow lanes
@Cpzombie, feel free to tell that to cops when you get pulled over for speeding the 2nd highest cause of accidents.
@Runnin with scissors, where do you live that cops are that anal? I slow down to 75/80 when I see cops, they don’t care. Speeding doesn’t cause accidents, slow people making everybody have to pass them on the right do.
@Runnin with scissors, are you a cop? If not, it’s not your job to enforce the law. Move over and allow faster traffic to pass on the left.
@Cpzombie, he is so clearly wrong. I don’t know where he got his “facts”... a 1968 Encyclopedia Britanica.
All modern studies have shown that people that impede traffic actually cause more accidents than speeding.
@big freedom, what study please point me too it because if you just google "main causes of traffic accidents" you'll get a long list of sites that state the same thing I am including government studies.
Are you just making stuff up or did you find your info on some site like buzzfeed but even dummer?
@Runnin with scissors, from the insurance company, that I work for. Who spend trillions paying settlements for accidents. You think they might have a vested interest in it.
But nope, I’m sure you know better. Because reasons.
In what reality is going 70 in a 65 "impeding traffic"? Thats like saying the cause of death due to gunshot wounds is lead poisoning. Also the legal definition of fault is always on the person who does the rear-ending, not the person who gets rear-ended. This is among the clearest of all traffic laws.
@big freedom, I'm pretty sure the government and studies related to reaction speed and stopping ability of cars know better. I'm not saying go under the speed limit is safe. Driving under the limit in the fast lane isnt good but driving over the speed limit is also and likely more dangerous.
But I'm sure you know better than empirical data given by third parties that are uninvolved directly. Because reasons.
I never said I know better I said pretty much every site or research result I find says speeding is bad.
also your link is very biased and also the search words at the end indicate that you searched for the one report out of the rest that agrees with you. hood for you Karen.
@PottedPlant, is there traffic behind you, then you’re impeding traffic, literally by definition.
@Runnin with scissors, you do know that most speed limits are more than 20 years old, right? Know how much safer cars are today than 20 years ago? Your opinion on this is as outdated as the governments ability to make reasonable regulations.
Yeah But here they pull you over for 5kmh over sometimes
Least in Aus
And the speed cams trigger at 4-6 kmh over
