@weneedacrusade, look pal, he's the prime example why term limits need to be put in place, he doesn't care about the people or even the nation as a whole, he cares only for himself & that'd be fine if his job didn't disproportionately effect millions of lives. If we don't provide more aid, we will be looking at millions of evictions due to people unable to pay for rent, this will cause an even greater economic collapse than the great depression right at a time when the world is getting primed & ready for WWIII (the Egypt crisis, Kazakstan border dispute, and potential Chinese annexation of Taiwan with decreased U.S. naval presence in the region due to pressure to be more isolationist). His actions jeopardize the long term security of the nation & will likely result in the deaths of thousands due to starvation, homelessness, & other such economic fallout just from his corporate greed. Just saying, people might want to remember the founding of the country and how that happened is all

@weneedacrusade, I'm not the one only throwing out quips man, I explained my position thoroughly as I could in one single message, and I never downvoted you either, I'd like to think that shows I'm probably more interested in dialogue than you're giving me credit for. For the world situation, that generalized info comes from my brother who works in the State Department and has been helping prep national security briefs for Pres. Trump and soon Biden, I feel that's a fairly reliable source and I'll admit strong bias to believe it. As for the economic impact of a lack of aid to the general population, especially the lower classes in regards to the upcoming rent crisis (which is the largest upcoming problem point from what I've seen), if you have some resources I can look into from an economist or similar, I would be interested in reading it.

@weneedacrusade, I used to be hard right in my early-mid teen years, swung hard left in my late teens and early 20's, and, ever since I had my beliefs harshly challenged by my philosophy professor who further encouraged me to never take things at face value, I've kinda balanced out into the center. Generally right-leaning on economics with a couple exceptions like healthcare (literally would have cost me ~$2k for just some heartburn and ADHD meds the day before yesterday had I not corrected an insurance issue which, I'll be frank, is fvcking ridiculous), hawkish in foreign policy, libertarian on personal rights and liberties, and I think the government should be in charge of prisons not companies. Maybe don't write off people who don't agree with you on something right away? Sometimes there's more nuance to people than first impressions let on.

@LordofBagels, same with lockdowns. All small businesses forced to close, causing the only open businesses being walmart, amazon, huge corperations etc. So all money just goes to them. I wouldn't be surprised if the democrats think they're trying to create socialism, but its gonna end up facist or capitalist just like Nazi germany. Cause if enough businesses close, what's gonna happen is the gov will say "ok if you give me half of your business, I'll give you money to restart it given I make half the profit" Then what just happens is the government controls the business which is facism. But if all the money is going into huge corperations, they're gonna keep the small businesses snuffed out and they'll be the controlling class and we'll be the workers ie capitalism

@LordofBagels, what is the logic here? Stimulus checks are proven to work (and are working in other countries) Earlier this year we gave tax cuts to corporations and the richest Americans to “help the economy” when that does nothing. You wanna know what actually stimulates the economy? Giving money to people who will actually spend it, and spend it locally, you know, working people. Taking money the government collected in the form of taxes and returning it to the citizenry as stimulus actively encourages people to buy products, order food, pay for things they need, and things that they want, which in turn stimulates the economy. It’s called Keynesian economics, and it’s proven to shorter recessions. When you give money to people who don’t have money to spend, to the surprise of no one, they spend it. How on earth you think directly giving people who make less that 75k a year a check is a scam is beyond me, unless you get your news from Parler or OANN.
-
@Spetsnaz , all businesses are either totally shut down or partly shut down cutting thier profits very big. If small and local businesses are shut down... Where are people going to spend their money? The only places that are open. Target, walmart, amazon, etc. All that stimulus money is about to go to these mega corporations instead of the small business we need to survive. it's basic economics I don't watch the news or use social media.
-
@LordofBagels, of Walmart and target can be open somewhere, so can small businesses. Also small businesses already received PPP loans from the last stimulus, now I agree they need more, but that’s a separate issue. Just because you don’t think people will spend their stimulus the way you want, doesn’t make it a scam for large corporations. The first bill already gave them a ton of our money, this one actually was going to go to people who needed it.

@CrazyRightWinger, I don't like that the dictionary definition of socialism includes political philosophy when it should be a purely economic philosophy. With that perspective, incorporating some economic components from socialism does not make us socialists since we are not adopting either the entire economic philosophy or any of the political philosophy. Side note: The political component of socialism is not a good thing, which makes the dictionary definition of socialism so bad. Pure capitalism is also not good. Unregulated capitalism will result in slavery derived from the conclusion of the Profit = Revenue - Expenses calculation, and employee wages are an expense. Taking what works well from socialism and applying it to what doesn't work in capitalism improves our economic model. Applying a label, such as "socialism," to our hybrid model doesn't change what we really have.

@CrazyRightWinger, Next, we have intelligent automation using advances in AI. Unlike the Industrial revolution, these advances will not only replace existing jobs, but also the "advanced jobs" growth seen after industrial automation killed a lot of jobs. The difference will be that AI automation can push its own buttons, self repair, self replicate, and self-improve. While I am excited to see this future, the lack of new jobs will be slim. I can't think of another way to advance American (or country of choice) industry without intelligent automation. Given that certainty, consumer spending required for capitalism to function will grind to a halt unless some solution is found, which is probably using more features from socialism economics.
I would think, given Mitch the Bjtch McConnell blocking additional aid, some might be more interested in exercising certain rights, due to the "let them eat cake" nature of congress' behavior of late. But maybe that's just me
