“You kids nowadays are so lazy! When I was your age, I owned a house, two cars, had three kids, and paid for everything with my part time paper delivery job! You just can’t make it work because you’re entitled, and because you’re on your phone all day!”
@I Are Lebo, "I even managed to destroy the housing market in ny spare time.
@I Are Lebo, I think both are true. There are certainly more entitled brats in the newer generations. Social media has a lot to do with developing that toxic mindset. At the same time the economy is much different so the people that aren't entitled pos have much harder time succeeding.
@I Are Lebo, I remember my dad and other older guys talking about paying for college from their summer jobs.
@fitizen, my God. Can you imagine?
@fitizen, they were able to do that because the cost of college wasn’t being subsidized by the government. As soon as the government started to guarantee payment on certain loans the price of college skyrocketed. Just like the price of everything else the government guarantees payment for.
@ThePandaPool , down with applebees!
@ThatGuyx79, which is also the big downside of poorly implemented government run medical care.
@ThePandaPool , older dude I used to work for, he’s in his late 60s now, told me he painted for the whole summer to pay for his tuition. Dude if I found a job that paid 40$k over the summer, I wouldn’t be going back to school...
@fitizen, right? I would work 8 months out of the year and vacation the rest.
I have an interview today.we'll see if this is how it goes
@Reach4God, good luck
@Reach4God, you can do it! Remember, getting the interview means you’re qualified for the job, the interview is to see if you’ll fit in with the company! You already passed the hard part.
@Reach4God, Hey, I also have an interview today. We got this. Good luck friend!
@Hot Coffee, were it so easy.
-The Arbiter, Halo 3, 2007
@Reach4God, good luck mate. I really hope it went well.
@TheHippyClown, thanks, mydude.
To be fair the 1970s scenario was only if you were a white male - preferably not Irish or Italian and your base salary was $1.60. Of course you could raise a family on it, but there were different limitations then
@CKMe, yea, now we have w9men and m*norities flooding the market!
@CKMe, also this scenario really only worked for labor/construction jobs, no one is lining up around the block for those these days
Completely false. I’ve gotten nearly every job I’ve applied for on the spot.
And I don’t even have a college degree.
And they did not hire people that easily back then. They questioned you until you seemed trustworthy. There are plenty of Boomers who struggled, but they tell the stories of victory because that’s all they care to remember.
Besides, anyone can go to college now. It’s not a worthy qualification anymore. People skills, and problem solving skills are the key.
Yeah, that much education would definitely be a turn off for me.
