We don't want them because we know it's a beautiful friendship that only lasts around 15 years on average, and I'm not ready for that loss.
@Mag3rPayne, I am not ready for my girl to pass. I've got 4 years left at best but I am not at all ready.
@Mag3rPayne, not sick or anything, just old.
@Mantis Tobaggan, I’ve been waiting for my girl to go pretty much any time for over a year now. She’s at least 15, deaf, senile, and missing most of her teeth.
It really sucks, because I’m essentially waiting for her to be suffering enough to need to be put down.
@I Are Lebo, ouch. Luckily mine is pretty healthy, I just hope she stays that way...sorry man thays terrible.
@I Are Lebo, My dad waited too long for our 16yo Aussie, he got to the point where he couldn't even get over the 1-inch lip at the backdoor to go pee, and would just pee at the backdoor. We finally had someone come and put him to sleep in home. It's always rough. That good boi lost his sister pup when he was only 1year. We took them both over to my grandma's and she forgot she had rat poison on the back porch. We didn't find the chewed up box until weeks later after the vet had misdiagnosed her with a respiratory infection. She died in my arms 4 days after ingestion, bleeding from her mouth. Ruff way to go.
@Mag3rPayne, that’s awful.
I’m paying close attention to my dog’s health. She still seems to be enjoying life, and so I’m obligated to keep her alive.
As much as I love them getting a dog is basically putting sadness on layaway
@aceh43rt, You get over the sadness, 15 years of good boi is definitely worth.
I just don't want my kids to bring me some dog found on the street, I want to raise a puppy from the start. Pros and cons in both situations. Street dog is free dog. Selecting a breed can get expensive.
Yeah he was probably the only one to care for it after a few months, moms are "too busy" amd kids suck
@Mantis Tobaggan, And that's why they don't want them in the first place. Dads are seers man.
@Mantis Tobaggan, this is my reason. I know who gets to train and be the responsible one, while wife and kids want the 10 minutes of fun a day before ignoring the dog.
@werp zerp snickel, they are the same way with cats, wife ignored the litter box until I would do it. Now it's an outside cat, which gets let in just to eat, and I still have to do that most of the time too.
Because we know we'll fall in love and are terrified of the heartbreak that will eventually come. Being a man, it's easier to be cold and uncaring than it is to love
Just 'cause you didn't want a dog doesn't mean you won't love and care for one once you have it.
Every dad doesn’t want the dog because he 100% knows better he will love it more than anyone else in the house and he doesn’t wanna tell you that you suck and this dog is better
My brother brought my dad a lab home one day. Dad didn't want it. 14 years later, he's got that dog trained to get chipmunks and he's spoon feeding the dog when he has snacks. Dad died from cancer in 2015. The dog died not too long after him. He kept going outside in the snow and laying under trees, refusing to come in.
@LyricTerror, my grandpa used to let my good boi eat all his leftovers during his snowbird stays with us. From meat scraps to chocolate ice cream.
@Mag3rPayne, barely anything uses real chocolate these days so pup was good to eat the ice cream. My vet even gives his dog a reese's cup once in a while because it's fake chocolate and the peanut butter gives the dog protein.
We almost lost our dog. My mom came terms with it, but everyone is worries how my dad will react once our dog passes away. So I can see why they don't want it.
