Still makes me laugh that the actor was trying to portray libertarians as borderline sociopathic, quasi domestic terrorists… And instead of being offended, libertarians were like “Yup… That about sums it up.”
@XiozTaschez, I’m gonna need you to slow all of those words down and explain them in more-of-a-retard please and thanks.
@XiozTaschez, Plot twist: The actor is not that far off from the character politically. That's what makes his real marriage such a thing of beauty
@AndySoshal, Supposedly the writes also based the character on a real person they knew who worked as a low-level pencil pusher for a county government who told them that he identified as a libertarian and that the "irony is not lost on me".
@XiozTaschez, Libertarians respect your right to make fun of us, and if its funny we'll laugh too.
@theduuuude, Nick Offerman is about as left as they come, Anti 2nd amendment, pro vaccine mandate, endorsed Hillary Clinton, plays woke ads that are full of lies and propaganda. Ron Swanson is NBC’s attempt at making conservatives and libertarians look like lunatics. The backfire comes in that the character has been embraced as someone idolized by not only conservatives, but centrists, and even some of the left leaning population. What made Parks and Rec a great show was that they did the same thing to both sides, it wasn’t as one sided as entertainment has become today. That said, you take one look at Nick Offerman today and you immediately think “Ron MF Swanson”, which makes me laugh so hard because the reason he has become so famous was because of a character that embodies everything he stands against. So much so, that he has been attempting to J K Rowling the character into something that it is not.
@AndySoshal, see my response to theduuuude, the only thing Offerman and Swanson have in common is woodworking.
Edit: And marrying Tammy 2
Edit 2: For Emp4th, both the character and the actor also play saxophone, drink Lagavulin, eat food, use the restroom, sleep, breathe oxygen, and they sort of sound and look alike. All moot points in the context of my comment, but I needed to make sure to include these so I don’t get the dreaded “mostly false” fact check.
@LookOutASni, also a bunch of George Bush cabinet members.
@AverageIdiot, and if it’s as top notch as Ron MF Swanson, we might even adopt it as our mascot.
@XiozTaschez, And playing the saxophone, and loving Lagavulin, and being trained in stage fighting and kabuki theatre. But yeah, politically they're different so they're polar opposites.
@Emp4th, politically, yes, they are polar opposites. And seeing how the politics of the character is front and center in a show like Parks and Rec, it’s a fair conclusion to say that the character represented in the show bears no similarities to the person playing him. Would you like for me to edit my comment so that it spoon feeds the point I’m making or is it so much to ask to look at it in context?
@XiozTaschez, Ron Swanson is the only libertarian that libertarians agree is a real libertarian
@TheTrueCorreia, truer words have rarely been spoken.
One of the funniest and well written tv show characters imo.
That look of pride at the end.
“It’s fvcking milk!”
