@Pat Myckok, I know it has no sci-fi elements, but it hits on some of the same philosophies that sci-fi do. I'd recommend "monster." It's a psychological horror that poses a question from the start. A doctor had a choice between saving lives. A politician or a child. He picks the child, saving his life. After a string of murders the doctor takes up the case as an investigator, as the boy grew into a machiavellian serial killer.
Ok so I have this friend who used to say beer tasted like dirty sink water. When i was a bartender all i did was slowly introduce him to new beers until finally he liked one and now he loves most beers. He loves adult cartoons too but has been getting sick of the played out story in most of them. Finally got him to watch scissor 7 and he loved it. So I'm just gonna say if you dont like anime maybe you havent found the right one to get you interested.
